Wish Hansi was in that interview too. I wanted to hear something about a future Blind Guardian album.

O well, ya get what ya get.

That's still quite a catch for an interview, and I'm glad he was verbose. :)

nice interview, although a bit short, and i agree on hansi.
he has an incredible view on his (and metal in general) music.
Plus the guy just rocks!
i always thought john was an asshole but in this interview he seems ok

Contination of the Set Abominae thing, technically the hardest thing he's ever done!! Quality!! It better be dead thrashy like the first couple of albums and not shit like the glorious burden.

John is a great guy! Can't wait to hear whole new D&W album! Also I can't wait to hear new Iced Earth, but I hope that this time Tim won't imitate Rob Halford so much, I understand that he can hit so fucking high notes but he needs his own style like on "Attila"! But the thing that I don't know is, can Bobby replace the greatest dummer in the world Richard Christy ?!?!?!

P.S. Hansi RRRRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS

Jon was really cool, easily one of the nicest and down to earth people i have spoken to. As for Richard Christy being the greatest drummer in the world, he isn't the greatest, but he is indeed damn good. One thing i didn't include in the interview is the fact that Jon said that Bobby was 5 times the drummer that Richard is and that is why Richard recommended him to Jon when he announced his departure.

Well I didn't know about this, but I wasn't so impressed with Bobby and his work with Rob Halford maybe just on "Crucible", but if Richard said THAT, then we shall see what Bobby is about to do on next Iced Earth record. By his style I think that he suites well to Iced Earth but I still like Richard more. That's just my opinion.
And I'm still right for what I said about Tim Owens, and his singing.

THX for reply Brent.

P.S. One more thing that I've read in the interview, is that new IE is going to be more influenced with orchestral arrangments. I don't like that.

I know that each band needs a progress but I think that more orchestra does not suit well to Iced Earth. One Glorious Burden is enough (I mean the second disc). We need a mix of Burnt Offerings and Horror Show with just a little of sitars or acoustic guitars or whatever, like in the begging of "Dracula" or "Phantom Opera Ghost".

I know that Jon is master of fitting the music right, and making trilogies.
How the hell are they going to play all those instuments on the concerts.

And if Jon needs some strange instruments from the region for his next concept album he can use albanian "zurla" or "serbian "gusla". (This sentence is a JOKE).

You, my friend, obviously haven't heard (like many others, as it seems) anything by Riot or Spastic Ink, Bobby's other bands. Riot plays kinda hard'n' heavy music, but Bobby just slays the drums there! Spastic Ink is a whole other story, over the top progressive music, filled with insane rhythms and time signatures, his brother Ron (founder of Watchtower) plays there as well. Not to mention his drum video, awesome!

Jarzombek is certainly a very well fitting replacement and his greatness as a drummer shows by his parts with Halford. He played just what was needed for that style and songs, didn't overplay at all. A great musician understands the demands of a song...

I've listened to new Demons And Wizards in its entirety and Bobby followed every single fucking pickstroke of Jon's! His double bass is out of this world and he's IMO among the best if not THE best metal drummer.

To be honest, I haven't heared anything from those bands(Riot, Space Ink). But I'm familiar with "Watchtower" and they are very good.

And I think I misunderstood something here, Bobby played drums on new Demons & Wizards too? I thought he is just an Iced Earth replacement!

Very well, I can't wait to here "Touched By The Crimson King".Then I'll come back here and post final reply.

P.S. Pozdrav za Splicane!

I think Jon's perfectionism makes him hard for some to work with and occassionally seem like an a$$hole. While some bands start with a group of guys who share a passion, IE didn't. Jon has never had that core group, and so he's always looking for people with the talent to fill in. The problem is that many people who are available are available for a reason, either they can play but can't write, or they don't have the drive to excell. These people will never last long with a personality like Jon's. I think he and Hansi work so well together because they share that drive and perfectionism. Being that Hansi has the kind of band Jon doesn't (with a core group), they will always have to be a side project. Still, it's great to have them together for something.

Time will only tell if Jon can finally get those people for IE. We don't know yet if Tim is one of them. Matt was for a while, but his passion eventually turned elsewhere.
