Technicality is the only objective measure when it comes to music.

The fact is she has amazing range and control, and a powerful voice.

If you don't like it, fine, but the statement "Tarja can't sing" cannot be justified.

You guys are just arguing semantics now, it's a redundant last-word-a-thon.

I realize how ironic it is then that I am posting as well, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

She is a very, very good singer, if in a style I can't stand. Though she made a huge mistake in alienating the rest of Nightwish. If money is what she's interested in, she's going to find that making it as an opera singer is ten thousand times harder than it was in Nightwish. In the opera world (which is where she seems to want to be), she's a good singer, but nothing special compared to the other ladies who can really hit the high notes. Not to mention, she's going to be the low woman on the totem pole for years if she goes anywhere outside the metal world.

Nice job of shooting oneself in the foot.

My thoughts exactly. If it's money that she's after, it was a terrible move, because Nightwish was a perfect money machine. But then again... she must have known that, right? She must have known that with Nightwish she could have made millions, and that it will be much harder in the opera world. I think it would have been impossible for her to not have known that. So I'd rather think that maybe Tuomas is exagerating, and perhaps it's not money that she wants, but to accomplish herself as an opera singer. And even if that, as Carnifex said, will be a lot more difficult than to gain popularity in metal, it's her right to try it, if that's what she trully wants.
And I can understand Tuomas' anger and frustration with the fact that her heart wasn't in the band, but I still hold my opinion that he shouldn't have written an open letter with all those details, unless it would be in response to other public statements.

To those who say she can't sing: hahaha
To those (males) who say they wouldn't hit her: hahahahahahahaha
If Tarja or a similar looking woman would come to pretty much any man looking for sex, he'd take his clothes off in less than 5 seconds. Save this bravado talk for your girlfriends, they're probably the only ones gullible enough to belive it.

She's ugly as sin. Just because your standards are that drastically low doesn't mean you can project them unto us.

I think she's pretty enough, but definitely an acquired taste. However, I'm not a slut, so I still wouldn't fuck her for the sake of fucking her.

A shit of a day just became the grand turd for me just then.

Words cannot describe how I feel, Nightwish are one of my all time favourite bands and one of the biggest inspirations in my music.

If this is really how Tarja is now (although it sounds like Tuomas is being as overdramatic as I now am) then its for the best. Tuomas is the driving force behind the band, there is every chance Nightwish will be back better then ever, they are better off without a superficialy driven frontwoman. However the fact still remains that one of the best bands of the last 10 years has changed forever, no matter what happens, whether its for better of worse, it will never be the same. Usually I look for the positives in everything (like thank god they came to Australia so I could see them before this happened), but I can't help but feel this is the end of something incredible.

This blows...

YIPEE!

YAYAYAY! :D

Im incredibly pleased about this. I always thought there might be some value - however little - in their music, but her irritating voice has always prevented me from getting into them.

It is a sad day for Nightwish fans all over the world :(

Not researching what the band does between albums and tours, i had no idea that the relationship between Tarja and the rest of the band had gotten so bad.
If the band thinks that Tarja has moved away from what it was that brought her to the band, then this is understandable. To hear a fellow band member say things like "i dont need Nightwish anymore" or "i can leave whenever i want" and saying that the next album will be her last, then its forseeable that the rest of the band would eventually lose faith in her loyalty to the band.
So this open letter was eventually gonna come out. This is just very disappointing and upsetting that its happened to such an awesome band like Nightwish.
I dont know how to react here. I guess i will keep an interest in Nightwish, they are easily in my top 3 favourite bands. Their music has always been fantastic, but it was Tarja's vocals which tipped the scales for me. She may not have written any songs or music, but it was her vocals which has helped Nightwish become as big as they are.
Having someone else sing for Nightwish will be weird and uncomfortable....much like some of you with Ripper Owens singing for Iced Earth. I seriously think this could be the downfall of Nightwish, although i really hope that its not. I cant see any good coming from this, although it is early days.
I pray that maybe the band can work something out and Tarja will be let back in. If not, and if Tarja persues a solo career or singing for another band, i will follow that with great interest.
With regards to finding a replacement, NO ONE WILL REPLACE TARJA, she is one of a kind, her voice is refreshing and unique and when someone says Nightwish, its Tarja that most people think of first.
To say that she is ugly is an absolute insult, she is a stunner, end of story.
But with every good/popular band, there are always shock band member replacements, its nothing new, it happens all the time with metal bands. It just sucks that it happened to Nightwish and happens to be the most important member of the band (to me, anyway).

Like i said.....its a sad day for all Nightwish fans around the world :(

I feel quite strongly about Tarja's abilities too, and while everything Tuomas said may be true (or may not be), I want to hear Tarja's side of the story before I form any final opinions.

True, i agree. But going by the emotion in that open letter, it seems as though Tarja's fate has been sealed.
I cant see her re-joining the band, going by what was written. Tuomas seems quite clear in his mind that Tarja has "disgraced" the Nightwish name and what it means.
But, like you said, i would also like to hear a statement from Tarja, as obviously there are two sides to every story and i'm sure hers will differ from Tuomas'

I still think that Tarja probably really did all those things. I mean, the note was not written in the "Me" perspective, it was the feelings of the entire band. She must have really pissed them off. Tuomas wrote it, but Emmpu posted it. He must clearly agree.

And by the way, I'd totally have sex with Tarja...twice, three times, whatever...

i liked her voice and honestly i think it playedd a major part in Nightwish's music, even if she only sang in it. that other guy's voice is annoying, i like it that he only gets a few lines each song.

anyways i can't see how the hell "she's after money". Nightwish are on a roll and if she wanted money she'd stay even if she wasn't into the music any more. that's a very nasty thing to say about someone..

This situation was rather similar in comparison to what happened between myself and my ex-singer, who wouldn't bother keeping in contact and bitching about who we play too, where we play and just generally being a diva/prick.

Good on Nightwish for sticking to their guns, they have all my respect and admiration.
