The album is... weird, quite experimental and not at all black metal that I can detect. Review Monday, fingers crossed.

Well I'd label myself less conservative on post-black metal than V, but I've about had it with Ihsahn's musical direction. Which sucks, because I respect the hell out of him! Adversary was decent, angL was better, and After was excellent (despite the overdone, yes, overdone sax). I was almost equally onboard with Eremita until you trapt, yes you, pointed out how stupid some of the lyrics were. After that the whole album rang a bit hollow and insincere and this preview track continues where that left off in my mind.

I'm done with the internet. Fulfilled the dream of ruining something for someone else. Completely agree with you, maybe disagree on the sax, but this album is rather appealing in the two tracks that I've heard thus far.

Now I see what Zad is saying. New Ihsahn track, Tacit: http://loudwire.com/ihsahn-tacit-exclus ... -premiere/

But I'll easily take him going out of his comfort zone and making weird music as opposed to making boring music.

^Its solid. Nothing amazing. There were moments that I wanted them to break out and go wild, but then they went back into another verse and it kinda made me sad about the whole bit. Plus, love bluesy Motorhead.

I'm liking it a lot - don't expect anything out of the ordinary by this stage (Lemmy is older than Biff from Saxon and making better, more listenable music). I know I'll be listening to it a fair few times and finding lots of good tuneage, and that's all I want.

Yes, that track showed that weird is better than boring, indeed.

I gave 10-15$ to their indiegogo so I will download it without remorse!

I tend to buy from whatever digital source the band has on their website since I imagine that's the one that sends the band the highest % of the money.

i didn't... couldn't make online payments at the time.

as much as CDs are nice and have the booklet and artwork and shit, they are extremely impractical these days. whatever link they have on their website is what i will use. i can make the legal download to my computer and then have the stuff on my mp3 player or whatever, right?

Yeah once you download them you can copy them wherever you want.

on first listen it's way good. love jadea's vox on lots of tracks. reminds me most of kezia because it's got that bouncy naive punky vibe rather than dark grumpy metal vibe. not hearing the bass too well but that might be my headphones' fault.

I think we're both right. Bass is hard to hear but my headphones were making it worse.

what do you think?

loving it so far. i don't play an instrument, but holy shit does it sound insane in what the instrumental part is concerned.

the occasional harsh vocals also work well, better than i expected after hearing Drumhead Trial.

Drumhead Trial, Without Prejudice and Yellow Teeth seem to be my favourites so far, along with Mist.

Plato's Tripartite is standing out to me. I dig the soft ending and the inflections on Rody's vocals are perfect. I'm unsure if I'll love this album as much as I loved Scurrilous, but I'm sure in time it'll sink into my brain with its catchiness and I'll be eating my words.
The production seems to weaken the album. Maybe it is my laptop speakers, but the complexity throughout the songs seems flattened by the production that forces the vocals to the top. Maybe when I have access to better quality rips or speakers it'll sound different.

won't comment on the production, but hot damn. seriously stunning album. instrument-wise it's out of this world. breakneck pace almost throughout (you don't have to slow down to be progressive! don't!), but always incredibly inventive and memorable. between gang singing, invited girls, and Roddy's own wider than ever range on display, there's enough vocal variety to go around, and it's all used intelligently and with incredible effectiveness. a lot of that punk energy from Kezia is on display here, as well as some really catchy punk-ish singing bits.

it's like the best of the 3 previous albums rolled into one. just absolutely floored by this album so far, but i think it'll become my favourite from them. this, Kezia, Scurrilous and then Fortress.

If you don't care about anything physical I personally think it's the way to go. Can't even remember the last time I bought a physical copy of an album. If I buy it's definitely digital.

Volition is my favorite album of the year, and I think it's PTH's best too. This cements them as my favorite metal band and maybe as my favorite band overall...maybe.

But yeah, they just nailed everything here. Rody just keeps getting better vocally, which is absurd. Songwriting is flawless, and they also brought back the "ohh fuck" moments that I felt Scurrilous was missing a bit. Chris Adler killed it. Even the lyrics are really, really good in my opinion, though some might disagree with me there.

Mist, Skies, Drumhead Trial, and Plato's Tripartite are all god-level for me. Every other song is "just" amazing...not a dud in the bunch. And, I saw them live and they pretty much killed it. Rody sounds great and obviously they're on point technically. They don't jump around or everything, but the crowd was so fucking into it that there was great energy nonetheless.

Yeah, I'm kinda obsessed with this band right now...
