the pretension of Misha.
Care to explain?
You got it Stefan.
"The nice change of pace thread" from 2006 on the Metalreviews.com forum
http://www.metalreviews.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5887The meaty part begins at the bottom of page 1 when I thank Misha for the Solstafir review (turns out it was your recommendation, Stefan, thanks again). He claims I never would have checked it had he 'properly labelled it as hardcore', which you noted it was not hardcore. His quote from page 2, where he is referring to me:
"You forgot he's not interested, only if I give it a metallish label. Sólstafir actually describe themselves as hardcore, with a reason. If I would have labeled it that, the poor guy would have overlooked it like my other reviewed albums. I needed to start lightly on the readers here, for them to remain insterested, that's why I mislabeled some bands' genres."
Funny looking back, and definitely an example of Misha's pretension.
Ok. But I think posting it out of context wasn't the fairest thing to do. Trust me, I knew Misha quite well back then and he was evolving so fast some "technical terms" were eluding him, he was not the pretentious ass you seem to recall. Imho, what he meant with "hardcore" was there was a strong post-hardcore influence in Solstafir's music which was actually right.
Anyway, as you pointed out, it was me who recommended Solstafir - a truly brilliant band - which proves to Herr Valefor (whatever is name is lately) that I have not given up on metal altogether. I'm just a lot more choosey than I used to be.
