Ok, so I listened to it, and you're right it sounds like its off Rust in Peace. Am I really going to be the first person to say that maybe sounding EXACTLY like a 20 year old album isn't the best....?

It wouldn't kill him to try something new.

Megadeth tried something new with Countdown to Extinction, Youthanasia, Cryptic Writings, Risk and The World Needs a Hero - and the more the pop, the more it sucked. Ok, not so bad like Load or Reload, but to go back to the Sound of Rust in Peace is the best thing that could happen. It's like Metallica give us a new Master of Puppets or Slayer give us a new Reign in Blood. I think that most of the Megadeth fans would kill to get a new record like Rust in Peace - and it doesn't look so bad so far... :)

not to speak for Megadeth or Mustaine, but in general once bands in their haydays have released their classic releases is it to so much of a stretch to say that they don't normally release anything on par with their classic releases for the remainder of their careers?
I don't know I have a hard time imagining Slayer or any old school thrash band could ever be those days of the 80's

New track's not bad, although I'm not getting this OMG RUST IN PEACE!!!! vibe that you guys are. Another United Abominations would be more than satisfactory, as Senor Rio said.

I think Megadeth have been working their way back up since they started back up. UA was a pretty solid album, and probably one of their best in awhile ( IMO ) and I'd like to see them continue on that track. They're one of my favorite bands, so I'll probably like this regardless.

Yeah, I guess you're not wrong. Ultimately, I'm a thrash fan, so I can definitely deal with "same old". And like I said, I'm still gonna get the album.

I just thought it warranted a mention because of one main reason: When he made Rust In Peace, he wasn't trying to make "Rust In Peace" he was just making his new album, throwing in all his new ideas and that's the way it turned out.

Ever since TSHF it seems like he's trying desperately to make lightning strike twice by making "rust in peace" using that same model of ideas.

If what we get on the album all sounds like Headcrusher, I'll be really really pleased. Even if it's not, i'll probably still be quite pleased just to have a new album. But I just can't shake the feeling he's not trying that hard anymore, that's all.

A few more songs like Headcrusher would be fine with me. Megadeth doesn't need to re-invent the wheel. Just give me something to bob my head to and I will be fine.

That being said, Headcrusher kicks ass. But so did Sleepwalker...

This headcrusher download got my appetite all whet, so I went back and listened to UA from beginning to end just now for the first time in like a year or something.

Wanted to rock the fuck out.

Strangely... not as awesome as I remembered....definitely a diminished return.

Just a small handful of good tracks and suddenly all the rest sounds a bit like filler.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Me.

Some songs are very cool, but for the most part UA is forgettable. Better than Death Magnetic though.

Ok, not trying to start any megadeth/metallica shit here, so avoid the temptation, folks. Just making an honest remark.

That Was Just Your Life and All Nightmare Long still make me headbang all the way through. Today when I listened to UA, for the first time, I only found myself headbanging right at the end of Burnt Ice.

That's all I'll say about that.

I wasn't trying to start a shit fest, just saying that UA is better than DM. That is all.

and, All Nightmare Long pisses me off.

Hehe.

I'm sure we could start a thread called "shitfest thread" and just make it a poll: UA or DM.

Honestly, there aren't (to the best of my knowledge) a lot of Metallica or Megadeth fanboys here. Sure an argument or two would break out, but it wouldn't be the shitfest of epic proportions like you see on Metallica or Megadeth youtube videos.

"Flamingo," the demo version is far better, in my opinion.

As for Megadeth, I don't really care much for the last few, these "return to roots" albums. Sort of like a band trying too hard. I'd rather the Countdown or Youthanasia (their best album) or Cryptic Writings stuff. Sure, not as fast or heavy, but better quality songs.

Though I definitely don't want Cryptic Writings part 2, I'll agree here that what Megadeth were doing with an album like Youthanasia was much better than what they've done in their past two (Youthanasia is seriously a fantastic album). I really have not been impressed with Megadeth over the past while- as I wrote earlier, each album seems to have a few good songs and then a lot of crap. To do the Metallica comparison: I'd take Death Magnetic over the past two Megadeths. I'm hoping this one will be better.

An early impression is that Head Crusher seems better than their other recent opening tracks; Blackmail the Universe and Sleepwalker. Both from solid albums.

You know that Head Crusher's not the opening track, right?

"Download a free MP3 of "Head Crusher", the first track from Megadeth's upcoming new album "Endgame" at this location."

Said the e-mail I got. I dunno, I kind of expected the official Megadeth newsletter to be correct on these things :P

Guess not!

Maybe they meant 'first track to be made available', but it is Roadrunner, so who knows.
