This is the kind of stuff that confuses me. This album is nothing like Wolfheart.
Right, it's
not Wolfheart. It lacks the folkiness it had and the atmosphere. Sure Wolfheart sounded amateur-ish like it has been said but the point is, it's still a classic and the band's most respected work. And I agree with you saying it's not black metal. It was black metal-ish in nature because of the vocals but it was extreme goth with folk elements... or something like that. Besides I'm biaised because Wolfheart is the one metal album I first listened to and bought so...

What I meant by that is that in terms of extremity and atmosphere, it's the most extreme and evil that the band has sounded since then. Night Eternal has the perfect balance of Fernando's brutal vocals (he never sounded this evil IMO) and his goth-ish croon that fits Moonspell so well. Memorial was good and at times pretty intense (Finisterra is still one of their best songs ever!) but the lack of Fernando's clean voice made it a bit boring to me... it was too samey, although some songs were awesome.

check out Hermeticum by Daemonarch. Or check out Under Satanae
Damn, how could I even forget about Daemonarch... and cheers for mentioning Under Satanae, that's the one I meant but for some reason, I mentioned the demo version, haha... those re-recordings are just awesome. I'm usually not big on bands re-recording stuff because it usually just ends up being a suckfest (StormblÄst, anyone?).
@Legacy Of The Night & traptunderice:
As far as slower songs of the band, I also prefer Dreamless on Night Eternal but I'd have to go with Sanguine for my all time favorite from the band. And I love Spring of Rage too. It's the most rockish and violent song the band has written in a while. Some songs were violent on Memorial but not rocking like this.
Phew... sorry for the long post!
