Agreed. Warrant's new album is damn good. Aside from Shadowlife, I don't think Dokken has released a bad post-80's album. Firehouse continue to kick ass (aside from that song "The Dark"). Winger's new CD seems like it's going to be very good. Bon Jovi continues to release quality modern rock albums. Skid Row, though nothing like they were with Bach, released a very good heavy alt-rock album with Thickskin. Slaughter's last album, Back To Reality, was great! Tesla rules...still!

Of course, then you have Motley Crue which have released a handful of good songs over the course of a few albums since Dr. Feelgood. Def Leppard hit a brick wall with X. Then you've got the bands that got back "together," put out a one-off album trying to cash in on the so-called 80's resurgance, the album sucked, and then they disappeared again. And then countless other lesser known 80's acts continue to release sub-par albums to their small fanbase.

But then there are bands like Bombay Black and Trixie, new bands, that pump out some killer 80's-styled rock music. If you miss out, your loss.

While I do think a lot of bands that enjoyed their heyday during the 1980's went on to release crap later in their career, one would be missing out on some really good music by saying ALL 80's bands turned to shit after time.

Without a doubt, I'd say that any 80's band that is still going today should be treated with the "try before buy" approach. That's simply becuase a lot of these bands clearly don't have it anymore, but some do. You just have to be willing to swim through some of the shit to find the good stuff.

For what it's worth, I think the Europe reunion is a big flop. Their last album was terrible, and this new one doesn't do anything for me after a couple listens.

Even if many bands from yesteryear no longer produce decent music, there is a huge resurgence of this genre in Europe. You just have to be willing to look for it.

Ken did you read this? Understand how to post in an thoughtful, easy going manner? I do it on purpose, you think it is just the way you are.

Good post.....

I guess I will just have to miss out, cos to be honest I never liked a lot of those bands in their heyday and certainly wouldn't know. When everyone was jamming to Tesla, Firehouse and Kix I was into Metallica, Saxon, Raven, Cirith Ungol, Warlord and others. So it was just never for me.

Hey leee, pay attention:

Quote:
Ken is just an 80's butt rocker through and through. ha ha, all that shit was gay except the early LA scene. Anything after oh lets say 86 was pretty worthless once MTV started making video.

That's your very first post in this thread! Thoughtful? Everything I post is thoughtful, but I refuse to post in an easy-going manner when you insist on making childish insults and talking trash based solely on ADMITTED ignorance.

If you dislike the FACT that you can't roll with me in true musical discussion that's not my fault. I love 80's rock and will defend the bands/albums I like. Deal with it, or don't have a conversation with me.

We you are an 80's butt rocker from birth, that picture of you with the sleeveless Def Leppard shirt and mini mulllet is proof.........

I think you must be the most tight wound human in all of creation. For the good of mankind please at least masturbate Ken.........

So yeah hi guys I just skipped over everything leeeeeee and keeeeeeen wrote.

I'm here to say:
Shut up, frigid. They reformed in 2004 for God's sake. I was at their first gig back and they blew me away. Brilliant gig. I had no idea what any of their stuff sounded like other than The Final Countdown (you know, just like Frigid  ) but 'twas a fantastic night.

The second time I saw them was May last year, when they were touring Start from the Dark. Another great gig. The new material is sort of enjoyable in a very cheesy soft rock sort of way, but can't match up to the stuff from their first two or three albums.

Plus, Scream of Anger will kill you and give your whole family AIDS with only one listen. What a song.

That's not a sleeveless shirt, I was showing off the pythons, bitch! And I'm not tight-wound at all, I'm very laid back, seeming to never really care about anything. And I masturbate quite regularly. As much as I hate you, leeee, we'd probably get on quite well.

But thanks for the thoughtful post.

And Rad, don't listen to leeeee, this wasn't a flamewar! It was a typical music discussion where two people disagree. Leee's just over-dramatic because I'm his arch-nemesis of teh inturdnets.

Dunno the last Europe album was a huge letdown. Anywayz, I was too bored to read all you wrote, but someone mentioned Firehouse (BYE BYE BABY BYEBYEEEEEE), Warrant (YOU'RE MY CHERRY PIIIIIIE) and Dokken (no comments, even his solo album kicks ass!!!), etc etc so a million hails to whoever that was!

Anyhoo, to get back on topic, get the two first Europe albums and most of Norum's solo output, they are all great melodic metal / hard rock hybrids with excellent guitar work. Oh and also get lots and lots of Bonfire releases! Not that it has much to do with anything, but when it comes to European poser metal, BONFIRE KICK EPIC METAL ASS :P

That was me, leee said the opposite! You should check out the new Warrant album, it's really good. And Jeff Pilson's War & Peace albums are great albums for Dokken fans. If you want a taste let me know.

Yeah that was Ken, I hate Warrant and Firehouse, Dokken had 2 good albums, 2 decent ones and after Dysfunctional I never heard them again.

Better to be and 80s rock freak rather to have any leftover taste from the "tasteless" 90s rock scene AKA Nirvana/Grunge and etc.
I will stick to Glam over Grunge any day!
The 80s rock is and will always be more "classic" and memorable than any of the 90s bands will and are current. The only thing saving the 90s bands would probably the untimely death of "cult" figure Kurt Cobain.

It is funny to hear Audioslave try to somewhat keep the sound alive if you ask me :)

Yeah they still have the lead singer from Axel Rudi Pell correct?
I believe he was one Hardlines debut (which is an outstanding slab of scorpionesque Rock!)
Johnny Giolli ? = cool pipes
My spelling blows :(

Yup, Gioelli was the vocalist on perhaps Axel's best album, the Masquerade ball. The Hardline album you're looking for is Double Eclipse, and it's indeed full of classics like Hot Cherrie, Rhythm from a red car, Dr. Love etcetc.

Didn't know winger was still around! They had Reb Beach on guitar right? Great player, Alice Cooper, Dokken, Whitesnake, he's played with all the greats. Anywayz, nice band, I remember some cool tracks like Seventeen and Madeleine but never really owned any of their albums. Any suggestions on where to start?

Btw, great thread, I keep checking the hard rock forum but nowhere there seems to care much about this stuff!

If you like that stuf it is cool, it just A. Isn't Heavy Metal and B. Not my thing. I am not a Pearl Jam fan and shit like that, but Nirvania is just different. I actually kind of like Audioslave believe it or not. Cornell has a cool voice.

Why is Nirvania tasteless? Kurt's music was heavier then anything any of those hair bands were doing.
