A. Uh...was he the guy from Phish?

You love Dimebag Darrell. Great. We get it.

Not necessarily. I'm a big fan of Pantera, but I do no Dimebag worship. I'm just trying to get people to open their eyes a bit. When Pantera was around no one talked bad about Dimebag's skills and already-secured legendary status. It was known. It was accepted as fact and not refuted because it was just. This new generation of music fans just care less and less about music. It's all at the tips of their fingers...for free. If they don't like it, it sucks. They don't like Pantera so Dimebag sucks, or he's just average. The same goes for Zakk Wylde: he's average, nothing special, yadda-yadda!

Watching those clips of Dimebag and saying it's not fucking amazing is like me walking outside next to you, looking up and going, "The sky is red, dude." It's just dumb.

I really just wish people would start caring about music again. Do you have to like the music to appreciate it, to acknowledge its place? No! Absolutely not! I'm not a big Zeppelin fan or Maiden fan, but I don't discredit them becuase of it. Too many people today just go, "Fuck that. Jimmy Page sucks. Hendrix was a stupid drunk who could barely play." This sort of thinking is not what it's about. I want people to care about music again, not just about YOUR music, but the ART of music. You know?

Dimebag is one of the greatest guitarists to ever live. He is a legend and was a legend years before his death. To not acknowledge this is simply retarded.

I think Dime's a legend as much for his capacity for alcohol as anything else. I mean, define legend : Andreas Kisser is one of the greatest guitarists to walk the face of the earth, and where's his recognition? You have to admit, Ken, Dime's popularity went up a helluva lot after he was killed. People are as fickle as fuck - if Kurt 'Heroin' Cobain was still alive he would be nothing! Dave Grohl's rode off the fact he was in Nirvana the whole of his career, and the only reason Courtney Love's not now a truck-stop whore in Mexico is that she was married to the whiny git.

Dimebag could play guitar. Big shitting deal. Could he calm a terrified animal down, so it didn't have to be shot? Could he gain the trust of a starving orphan? Could he actually change world events, and make this shitstain of a planet a better place to live? No. I reserve my respect for those that deserve it.

Basically.

Any increase in people not regarding Abott as a 'legend' is just a backlash against the moronic sheep out there who had never listened to more than a few Pantera songs but started prasing the poor fucker from the rooftops the minute his still-warm corpse hit the stage.

So yeah, he could play guitar. Some people don't think he could. Some people think he could walk on water. Conclusion: people are stupid.

I won't call him a legend, but I will say that after seeing the guy live several times, in different stages of the bands career, I can say that he was a fantastic guitar player. I've seen the guy just bust out random 20 minute guitar solos that blew away a good chunk of guitarists out there. He was truly at his best when he was buzzed and just having some fun. I do agree that he doesn't get near enough of the credit that he deserves though. I hear people fellate guys like Herman Li, who also loves himself some whammy bar, but Dimebag doing it is just average. Oh yeah, because Pantera invented Nu-Metal, which is the most retarded statement I've ever heard in my life.

And Kurt Cobain is a different ball of wax. The difference being that people did actually care about Dimebag before he died, nobody even knew any Nirvana songs outside of Teen Spirit before Courtney offed the hack. Then after he dies, the same critics who blasted Nirvana for having no structure or substance, suddenly came out and proclaimed him artist of the decade. Hell, fucking Pearl Jam and Soundgarden are the two great Grunge bands, but all you ever hear about is how Nirvana changed the landscape of music. Yeah they did. They showed that shitty music can be profitable, because kids are idiots.

Starting this thread kind of IS Dimebag worship. Where were all you guys in the other thread! I had to fight Ken on my own about Pantera being 'legends'. Also, nice mod behaviour there kenny, telling us to fuck off and die

Do you think Varg Vikernes is a legend? No? Well i do, cos i adore Burzum's music. You dore Pantera, some others do not. GET. OVER. IT!

Isn't it kind of early talking about 'legends' anyway? Sure, Hendrix was a legend, Lennon was a legend, but both of those are with hindsight. Who can say which current or recent musicians deserve to be compared to them?

Legend is a subjective opinion to begin with. I consider Hendrix a legend for both his excellent music and his ability to smash boundaries along the way. A Black man garnering that much success in the 60's was downright unheard of, and the man had buckets of courage to go out there night after night and basically say stick it. Lennon, I do consider a legend, but I hate his music. I think the Beatles are and extremely overrated band, but the impact his music had on peoples lives in general is undeniable. Sometimes being a legend is being something that transcends music itself.

I wondered what you were on about there. Must be some Turkish thing.

Oh, sure. I much prefer his solo stuff to The Beatles.
