I won't deny he was good, but no one should be claiming he was better than Trey Azagthoth, for example.
Who did that? Still, there is a difference:
Q. You know who Dimebag Darrell is?
A. Hells yeah!
Q. You know who Trey Azagthoth is?
A. Uh...was he the guy from Phish?
You love Dimebag Darrell. Great. We get it.
Not necessarily. I'm a big fan of Pantera, but I do no Dimebag worship. I'm just trying to get people to open their eyes a bit. When Pantera was around no one talked bad about Dimebag's skills and already-secured legendary status. It was known. It was accepted as fact and not refuted because it was just. This new generation of music fans just care less and less about music. It's all at the tips of their fingers...for free. If they don't like it, it sucks. They don't like Pantera so Dimebag sucks, or he's just average. The same goes for Zakk Wylde: he's average, nothing special, yadda-yadda!
Watching those clips of Dimebag and saying it's not fucking amazing is like me walking outside next to you, looking up and going, "The sky is red, dude." It's just dumb.
I really just wish people would start caring about music again. Do you have to like the music to appreciate it, to acknowledge its place? No! Absolutely not! I'm not a big Zeppelin fan or Maiden fan, but I don't discredit them becuase of it. Too many people today just go, "Fuck that. Jimmy Page sucks. Hendrix was a stupid drunk who could barely play." This sort of thinking is not what it's about. I want people to care about music again, not just about YOUR music, but the ART of music. You know?
Dimebag is one of the greatest guitarists to ever live. He is a legend and was a legend years before his death. To not acknowledge this is simply retarded.
