It's not just metal: How many famous female composers can people name, how many famous female jazz musicians (excluding vocalists)?

My theory is: Successfull musicians have to be at least a little bit obssessive. In my experience, obssessiveness is a characteristic that the vast majority of females don't possess, but the vast majority of males do. This should be a compliment towards women- because they have a more intelligent sense of priority and perspective. But it does mean they hardly ever become as devoted to one specific subject as a man will- hence the lack of females willing to drop everything for a life in music.

Compare it to other areas of life in general: How many women do you know that are obssessive enough to spend hours talking about just one subject, be it sport, computer games, or whatever? I know hardy any. There are very few famous female film directors too. This is because, while a woman may be interested in film, she will often be less inclined to dedicate her life to the medium.

This also explains why men are more often guilty of making rash, ill thought out decisions.

Alright, so personally, I don't believe in female lead singers (in metal at least), but I have no trouble with, say, a female bassist or drummer. In any other genre, I'm fine with girls singing but it just doesn't sound right in metal. Also, whoever said that 98% of girls who like metal are fat or ugly or whatever is just plain wrong

I'm okay with women in metal. I would have said that I'm not too fond of harsh female vocals, but then I liked the female vocals on the newest Agoraphobic Nosebleed album, so I guess that isn't true. I also really enjoy Jex Thoth, and part of that certainly has to do with the vocals. I'm not really sure how "metal" that is, though. So, yeah, I'm all for 'em.
