Holy shit this band is promising! I first heard their song "Freya" on a Music Choice channel and misread it as the band Freya, which features ex-Earth Crisis members, so I was shocked at their direction change! They went from hardcore to...Clutch and frickin' '72 era Black Sabbath?!?! WTF? Of course, I soon realized the song wasn't named "The Sword," but the band was. HA!

Anyway, this album isn't out yet, it comes out in February, but these songs below are pretty kick ass! They're 4–0 with me right now, this album could be awesome! And they look like kids!

THE SWORD - IRON SWAN
THE SWORD - BARAEL'S BLADE
THE SWORD - EBETHRON

Iron Swan is a really good song. I like the way their minds work - a lot of stuff in this vein ends up sounding like a drunk trying to walk - slow, meandering and going nowhere.

Yeah, that's true. I like "Ebethron" a lot, too, and that "Freya" song I heard was excellent. "Barael's Blade" isn't amazing, but is good. That's 4 songs, the album apparently will only have 9 songs, so it's got potential if the other 5 tracks are of this quality.

You know who they also remind me off? Seemless! That's Jesse David's new band, he was the previous singer in Killswitch Engage. They another great band that sort of tackles a style of rock that is seemingly long forgotten.

Another band that did this on one album back in the day was called Only Living Witness. Their Innocents album was like this, it was killer. Random story: When I got out of the Air Force a while back I took a job as a waiter at Joe's American Bar & Grill in Dedham, MA and the guitarist of that band was the bar manager. Weird.

Anyway, check out seemless, too!

I disagree

it's not loong forgotten, just not very well done by all the mainstream american rock bands... (kinda reminds me of Soundgarden SST's era)

good album, review it on MR, it fits ! :D

You can listen to the song "Freya" there. For some reason it sounds like a demo, though.

EDIT: That has got to be a demo. It's not like the song I heard. Anyway, I just ordered THIS CD. Apparently they released a 3-track demo CD in August.

I got this in the mail today. It's AWESOME! Apparently it came out in August 2004, not 2005. It's three songs of some killer stoner doom rock, or something like that. It's like Black Sabbath meets Clutch. That's fairly accurate. Anyway, I encourage anyone who likes the clips to check this EP out.

I can't wait for Ages of Winter now!

This band seems to be have caught some sort of media wave lately. Just saw them in Revolver and Rolling Stone.

They have, it's odd because they're not very radio-friendly. Some people are probably trying to run with the whole Mastadon thing since they sort of had some mild mainstream success. I can't see this band being MTV darlings, though. Still, they're very good so it's cool to them getting some recogntion. And they're on Kemado Records, an indie label!

I just reviewed their 2004 demo last week.

I figure I'll just add this band to this thread. I just heard a song by them and thought it kicked ass. I checked their website and their gonna be touring with The Sword soon, which makes sense since Early Man also play that same style of Sabbath-influenced stoner rock. Check 'em out:

EVIL IS
DEATH IS THE ANSWER (MP3) | (QUICKTIME VIDEO)

I'll be buying this CD tomorrow, no doubt!

OK, so I bought this CD and it's not exactly what I expected. It's much more power metal than The Sword. It's still that style of stoner rock, but there's way more metal involved. There's a song called "War Eagle" where the vocals reminded me of John Arch (Fates Warning-era)! At other times the vocalist reminds me of Dave Mustaine. I've listened through once and I was definitely impressed.

I need to give it more spins, though.

So, since I want to see this band live I checked out the other band they're touring with, Priestess. Again, this band seems to be another killer rock band!

Check 'em out:

I AM THE NIGHT, COLOUR ME BLACK (Video)
RUN HOME (Video)

Make sure you visit their website and listen to "Lay Down," it's excellent!

I just saw that Early Man are featured on The Unit, that thing Revolver does where they basically force a band to write a song right there on the spot. This is that song:

I WANNA SET YOU ON FIRE

It's actually not bad, too bad it's really short and clearly unfinished. Not bad at all, though.

Jesus Fuck!! Who the hell am I talking to here? This will be my 6th consecutive post on these bands in this thread! Hahaha. You guys suck. :D

Anyway, I'll keep this alive by saying that I got the Priestess CD in the mail today—finally!—and it really kicks ass! I've had it on repeat for the past 6 hours, it's excellent. Anybody care? Hahaha.

Just in case anyone has a burning desire to hear more about The Sword, here is the review for their album from my school's radio station:
“Holy crap, it’s a band from Austin, TX that sounds absolutely nothing like hipsters! The cover art and album concept might bring up some below-the-belt D&D Ren Fair jokes (“Metal and valor that can withstand the tests of time and the elements”), but the music is nothing but heavy. Rolling Stone sez: “The new classic-Black Sabbath platter you have been waiting forever for the old Sabs to make.” RIYL: Black Sabbath, Kyuss

I did not write this.
