Any good? I blindly purchased it and I'll listen to it tonight in bed. This is my first doom purchase, so...

I like a lot personally. It has more of classic metal feel than say doom/death or funeral doom, so I think you made a good choice in going with that first.

Next time, ask before you buy it. That way, if it turns out to be bad, you're OK, as you haven't got it! :)

Dude, impulses. I've only listened to it once, so I'm not commenting yet. Even if I didn't like this I'd keep it, to mark the anniversary of my first venture into the world that is doooooom.

Forest of Equilibrium is a good album to start out with, although it is hardly representative of the doom genre due to the rocking aspect. It does, at least for me, capture the emotions of a great doom record. If you like it, dive in for some Candlemass or Reverend Bizarre.

Oh, and I know all about impulse buying, both good and bad.

Tonight I will give it a decent listen-allthough from my first two listens I think that Soul Sacrifice really ruins the mood-it's more mid-tempo thrash or something. (Does remind me of Symptom of the Universe though) It may not be representative of the whole doom genre, but I want to tread carefully, lest spoil my impression of the whole thing.

Well you are right that Soul Sacrifice seems really out of place. Maybe you'd be better off skipping it? I like the song for what it is, but it does interrupt the flow.

Oh my-great album! :D
The first track is my favourite, but as Stub said the last track is very good. Soul Sacrifice is a nice song, but it gets in the way of the dooooom, plus the bit where Lee growls "allright" is hilarious. I can't remember where, but there's another mid-tempo bit which interrupts the flow-I usually listen to mostly fast stuff, but it just seems to detract from the cd. I listened to the first track like 2 or 3 times after I'd listened to the cd just because it's that great! (at the moment) I'd give it about 79/100.
