NP - Nightfall

I'll be honest, I haven't really heard much by Dan Swanö. Is all of his stuff like this? B/c if it is, I need to get into Dan Swanö.

All of the Nightingale stuff sounds like this, but better because the live tracks are kind of crappy. The Breathing Shadow, like I said, is a bit different, but it’s still great. He did a side project called Odyssey and released a self-titled EP. It was him and some other dude, he wrote one song, the other guy two songs, but goddamn is that EP not kick ass! Let me know if you want to hear some shit and I’ll make a mix and put it on megaupload or something.

Yeah definitely do that.

I thought Dan did mostly (death) metal kinda projects. Never heard of nightingale before, but these mp3s indeed sound shit. Music's good though.

www.progarchives.com has some quality nightingale mp3s.

I must say i am impressed

Dan has done a ton of different styles.

Unicorn - Prog
Steel - Cheesy Power Metal
Edge Of Sanity - Death Metal
Diabolical Masquerade - Death Metal
Moontower - 70's Prog Rock Death Metal
Karaboudjan - Weirdo Instrumental Death Metal
Pan.Thy.Monium - Weirdoer Death Metal
Bloodbath - Brutal Death Metal
Ribspreader - Death Metal
Katatonia - Prog Death (I guess)
Nightingale - Melodic Prog Rock
Godsend - Prog Doom

The list is endless. He's not been the sole writer in all his projects, but he's had an influencial hand in all of them.

Because two different people reviewed it? That's just a guess, though.

Nightingale is amazing. I'm a big Swanö fan, though, so I'm biased.

Biased, but correct.

not better than Motorhead, no way, not by a long shot.

I am a huge Swano fan too. Anything that has his name attached to it comes out great (although I was not that taken by Diabolical Masquerade).
Speaking of Infernal. I love that album. You could feel the album splitting EoS in half, Swano going on his own tangent, and the rest of the team staying old school. I can't count how many times I have been switching allegiances one day liking Dan's songs, another day loving good ol' Swedish death. In the end Dan wins. Hands down.

I didn't realize it was a competition, but if you ask me, Dan shits all over Lemmy and Motorhead. You'll also notice that every album reviewed (that got scores) but one got a better score than Iron Fist, so that should be the most telling thing of all.

Diabolical Masquerade was more of a Blakkheim project, Dan was involved, but not very much, some vocals, drums, keyboards, etc. I only have Death's Design and I think the album is awesome.

Have you heard Unicorn and Odyssey?

Maybe I was wrong, but I figured the only Nightingale of interest to me was Breathing Shadows. From what I've heard of later Nightingale it's neither prog nor heavy, and is more of a light-hearted melodic rock thing. I think I heard Alive Again, was that different from other Nightingale or are we just seeing the same thing two different ways?

And honestly, fuck Motorhead. I know Holy Terror likes to cry about how I "attack him" and hide in the wings of the forum and just wait for a chance to e-ssault his thrash sensibilities, but we could really do without this bullshit. Coming into a thread like this just to bitch about it getting a higher score than a Motorhead album is pathetic, as well as completely typical of him.

No surprise he chose my review either even though most of the other reviewers this week gave their albums higher scores. I vote: BAN!

As for Nightingale, the first album is very different from the rest. Everything after is like melodic prog-rock, there are a lot of prog elements, but it's not all out progressive. Apparently White Darkness is going to be heavier and darker, we'll see.

Ha. :D This is great. Listening to these two bitch about me is extremely amusing. I'm sorry but Lemmy would do a line of coke off of a stripper's ass, and then kick the shit out of Dan Swano and his posse of pale frilly laced shirt-folk. Then he'd rock out for a bit.

I have to agree. Then he'd do a shit on their battered corpses.

Dan does everything better than Lemmy! The only thing he has that Dan doesn't have is a bumpy face.

I dont agree. No one embodies the spirit of rock and roll more than lemmy does. So he doesnt wear frilly laced shirts, do copious amounts of sweep picking and arpeggios, and his music doesnt have shit loads of layered harpsicords and keyboards. So what? Motorhead is a dirty rock and roll band that has had twice the influence that anything Dan Swallow has done. Motorhead is a classic heavy metal band, and anyone who calls themself a metal head should do them justice. What you have just done sir, is blasphemy. I know you like modern metal, but this is too much.

Hahaha. I'm being sarcastic. You started it, by the way. The two shouldn't even be compared. Lemmy and Motorhead are legends, no doubt.

And for the record, you described Yngwie, you're not even close to Dan Swano.
