I'd like to add a tremendous "wOOt!" to that. Hawkwind rule.

How could no-one have mentioned Bloodhag! They are a decent hard-core (they label themselves "edu-core") band that are entirely devoted to science-fiction! Their first single was called "Arthur C Clarke" and is all about his life and works. All their songs are about obscure (and not so obscure) sci-fi books, they only do concerts in libraries, and they throw out free sci-fi books during shows. I don't know if they are still around, but they're a hoot if you can find a cd of theirs. www.bloodhag.com is their site.

There is something ironic about calling yourself edu-core and then singing in unintelligible shrieks and growls

Hehehe. Come on, some of these bands say they're "rock" music with screaming vocals. Haha. Rock music? Edu-core indeed.

Get this album:

Hawkwind - Canterbury Fayre

It's their best, a 2001 live double album with their best old style songs played the modern way. Thus, the rock classics, but with the extremely extraterrestrial and experimental feeling. Becomming one of my favorite albums lately!

Thanks for the PM, but this shitty machine won't play rar files, and the damn thing won't let me download it, either. I'll have to buy it the old-fashioned way...

BLAZE's Silicon Messiah and Tenth Dimension. Pure awesomenessness, these albums. That is why I was so disappointed with Blood and Belief because of the breaking away from the sci-fi theme. I was really hoping Bayley would continue the theme throughout the life of the band.

D'oh! I'm such a moron for forgetting to mention these albums.

BLAZE rock, but you can't help but wonder how different the next album will sound.

some Iron savior, and Guardians of Time second album.

All Iron Savior. If you want sci-fi metal, this is the band for you. All their lyrics are one single concept that continues to expand through each album (I'm not going to guarantee whether its good or not).

Morifade do 1984-type sci-fi lyrics.

Very true with Iron Savior. Everything they've done has been totally Sci-fi. I remember someone saying that they will quickly run out of ideas with that concept, and they did after Condition Red. Battering Ram sort of went away from the sci-fi theme, although it was still there, but not so much saturated with it as previous albums. They even go as far as including the sound of a space craft taking off in their songs...well only 2-3 that i can think off, but its cool either way.

Early Stratovarius had some sci-fi concepts and Primal Fear have covered it a few times as well.

Check Project Creation by the guy from Portugal - Hugo Flores. Interesting Prog Metal with space themes :)
