I have a serious question, should I quit my band, I just read the lyrics their writing for one of our songs, and it sounds like they want to become a christian rock/punk band? (WTF!!!!!!!!!!!)

and im not really interested in being in a christian rock band.

I could care less about lyrics if the music is good.

but the music isn't good, and trust me, if you're in a band you should care about the lyrics!

I'm just talking about a listener’s perspective. I see where you are coming from though.

Well, if you don't like the music, and your heart's not entirely in it, I don't see why you should stay.

Fuck them. Don't join/remain in a band if you don't believe in what they are doing, that would make you some kind of poser. That's my belief anyway. I once had plans to join a budding band with another guitarist but he absolutely could not be convinced to write non-christian lyrics, so I didn't join him, simple as that.

That equates to:

4. Slit your throat, taking 40 years to finish.

Uh, yay?

This one drifted off topic quickly. So to get it back on, I play dragonforce style drumming, or at least I like to think I do. It really depends on what the guitarist is up to though, and I play in two VERY different bands so my style goes all over the place.

Anyhow now to get it back off topic, personally I don't look into the lyrics of songs much, I'd be just as happy if everything was instrumental, but if you're band's going in a direction that you're not digging you're just gonna get pissed and quit eventually. Might as well get a head start on starting something new up.

Good point. Playing with different people certainly forces you to adapt your style to the musical situation, sometimes drastically.

Husker : If you're not into the band 100%, well there's a word for that : poser.
Quit and join another or form your own band.

Haha, my songs change drastically when me and my bandmate (bassist) get together... I find myself scratching whole riffs out, and writing new ones that melt over his bass lines... The first time we heard each other play... I didn't expect him to have so much bounce!!! He's all jazzy, and I had written minimalist/violent thrashy stuff. I kept one riff, and ended up writing 8 new ones to go over some of his shit he recorded for me. It was a good thing, though, because his jazzy side created my technical side. And Husker, I don't think you are a poser. You gotta play somewhere, and a drum practice is still drum practice. Use the band for background noise, and get your 'live' practice scenario in until you are ready to move on.

And all you wannabe voxers, could you all post some MP3 files of you grunting? I'd be interested in hearing it. I used to be in the same "my throat hurts, waaaah" boat, but after going to concerts all the time and gutter roaring my guts out, the problem seems to have gone away. Still, I'm not satisfied with my grunts. Seems you get dealt what your body gives you.

I suck at being creative in my current band, anytime I do something other than a straight beat they don't like it.

So lemme get this straight...

You don't like the band's music?
You don't like the message of the band?
You don't like playing with them?

Quit.

I was going to make a very emo post, but decided not to. I'm going to try and do my best to quit.

I can do that sometime tomorrow, I think. I have a couple mp3s of that already, but I sound tired and weary in them.

Indeed.

I'm not trying to make you quit the band. It just seems that you don't really want to be in it.

But really, if the band doesn't present you with any challenge as a musician, and you don't like the music and the message of the band, i see no reason to stay in the band. Just my 0,02.

Husker: quit.

And this is interesting, I was gonig to make a post about how to growl. I can do it for a minute or so, but always end up coughing and retching like Steptoe after ten packs of Benson's. Any ideas? Should I just keep at it?
