Yep. I'm going with the US. A lot of my favorites hail from here.

Death, Atheist, Cynic, Morbid Angel.

Canada does have some nice technical death though, and Europe/Poland has Decapitated.

Yeah, I don't count melo-death as death metal. Therefore the USA wins this one(the only category the US could ever win in metal), although Quebec's scene recently has been the most dynamic.

Agreed, every other genre's best lies somewhere else, but America has churned out some good ones in this case. But yeah, nothing lately.
