And in April I'm seeing Saxon.

You won't be disappointed. And if you are I'm coming down to Cheshire to beat some sense into you.

But....but....Well, fair enough. I WAS going to see Helloween until it turns out they're playing on a weeknight so the travel to Bradford would be impossible...hmph.

I saw Nightwish in Montreal 2 years ago.. and to this day remains to be my only real concert.. Nova Scotia sucks balls.

However, if Blind Guardian comes to Montreal this year, I will travel for that.. I think they were in Montreal a few times before, so it could happen again!

I've just seen Helloween on the 28th January here in Romania/Bucharest. The setlist was the usual European one (you can look it up at www.helloween.org, don't feel like writing it all down), and boy did they kick ass... As some of you know I'm not very fond of Deris (in comparison with Kiske, that is) but my opinion has changed...he is a TERRIFIC frontman, just EXCELLENT. He hit almost every single note (his own material) and did justice to Kiskes's material in his own style and way, but the point is that he really connected to the audience. It was the first time for them here in Romania, and it was strange for both "sides", front in front, not knowing eachother... I mean it's the same as when you meet someone you heard of, face-to-face and there is like ahh a little silence and you don't know what to do or say...luckily Deris "broke the ice" and with his antics and commentaries left everybody content and happy..(HAHA even the corny left, middle, right side singalong went down exceptionally well, putting a big smile on Deris's face)... The venue was a little to big (5000 for an audience of maximally 2000) but only a few remained seeted, so the zone in front of the stage was filled with metalheads.... The performance was good ( weikath didn't smoke very much which by his standards means, :) I think :) , that he enjoyed the show).. Gerstner was good (not mindblowingly spot-on with his solos), but a good showman. Dani Loeble is excellent behind the kit (reminds me so much of Uli Kush, my favourite Helooween drummer)...but really the star of the night was Deris... so hats off to him and I await them on the next tour. The sound was also a highpoint, eveything was perfectly audible.
If you have the chance go see them. Excellent show (even if you don't like their music) (I'm a fanboy anyways)

DragonForce, Edguy and (Sabaton) last night. Want to know why Sabaton's name is in brackets? I'll tell you why, Billy - because the cuntrag organisers made me completely miss them! How can I show up 15 minutes after they open the doors, and by the time I get in have completely missed the first band? What kind of professional venue allows shit like that to happen?

Moving on, and Edguy were good - maybe not as good as I was hoping for, but that's mainly because they missed a few key songs (key in my opinion anyway) like Out of Control and Headless Game, but I understand you can only fit so much into a 45 minute set. Plus they only played two new songs (opened with Catch of the Century, wtf?). Toby actually took a while to get warmed up, but he hit most every note perfectly after a few songs. Most pleased.

DragonForce, well it was the third time I've seen them so the shock of "OMG FAST GUITTARR S0L0S LIVE!!!11" wasn't present. About what I expected, with maybe a few too many new songs (no Black Winter Night or Starfire  ) but a great gig nonetheless. Plus, maybe the best (or most silly fun) solo section I've ever seen. Started with Vadim doing his usual happy hardcore keyboard solo before Sam, Herman and the stand-in bass guy Frederic came out to take turns shredding away (3 guitars!).

Well, while you were at that show, I was at Sonata Arctica and Cellador in Minneapolis (never mind the time zone difference).

Cellador was fucking perfect. They finally got a chance to play in front of some power metal fans (instead of all the hardcore punks we have here in Omaha). What else can I say about these guys except, perfect?

Sonata Arctica was just as I imagined them to be. Tony Kakko was on key all night, and the guitarist and keyboardist (can't remember their names) put on some awesome duels. They played a shit ton of classics from Ecliptica and Silence.

Now I am extremely tired, it was a 7 hour drive up to Minneapolis. We got there at about 5 PM then we had to wait for Sonata Arctica's 45 min. sound check. After that the opening band, who sucked, played a 45 min. set followed by Cellador and Sonata Arctica. We ended up leaving at about midnight and I'm now home 8:07 AM. Plus I have work in a few hours. Sleepy time.

Hey, I saw Helloween too last week. Pretty much like dreaming_h said, Deris was impressive, so was Loeble. PyroMan, I'm sorry you couldn't see them, you missed a great show. I heard they also taped the show in Bulgaria for their next DVD. The filming was originally scheduled for the Bucharest show, but unfortunately the venue was too big for the people there. I heard there were about 5000 in Sofia.

Seeing how impressive they were live, after enjoying The Legacy quite a lot, confirmed to me that, right now, Helloween are indeed amongst the very best in the whole scene.
