A personal question, if you don't mind?

Is that to the extent of abortion if you get pregnant whilst in a long-term relationship?

Yes.

you might be very young.... I guess you have plenty of time to change your mind. not that I don't respect your stance just that I once was like you and changed mine... :)

If I wasn't very used to hearing that sentiment....

Variations on the phrase "you're too young to *insert something here*" are T.I.E.'s automated response to any challenge involving... anything.

Then again, I love kids, so I don't disagree with him on this point.

and actually, I was talking to Carnifex because what she said reminded me exactly what I used to say 10 years ago or so...

No, I mean, whenever anyone argues with you about anything, you find some way to bring that up.

It's really irritating.

I mean, what Carny said reminds me of what I used to say one year ago, but it's not necessary to bring up.

I was about to vote for you as most annoying poster dunno why I changed to Zad... maybe because he's a maniac/compulsory poster...
anyway, I'm so very sorry that I annoyed you and I'll try to remember not playing the age card so often (not that I did it on purpose). could you, in return, try to stop being the know-it-all-can-answer-to-everything you came to be ? thx ! :D

It doesn't really annoy me anymore, just making a point.

As for the second part... since I don't know precisely what you mean by that, no. Care to clarify further?

I mean, in any debating thread you seem to be so desperately looking for the last word, the victory... I don't have an example now but I'm sure it'll come soon enough. that is if you still don't get what I meant and where then unable to change anything... :)

@Daniel : why ? :shock:

Oh, I get what you mean now.

Why would I stop doing that? I enjoy arguments, and also winning arguments. As such, I continually respond until the other party gives up or I give up.

It's the only way to win arguments on the internet.

quite true... hélas

I'll try to be better by not saying how much more experience of life I have than youngsters (14 to 20 for the majority) and you'll stay the same... It's kind of strange someone my age still tries to grow when younger people seem to be perfectly content wih who they are... I'm sure I wasn't that arrogant...

No offense to you, T.I.E., but that whole "that's what I used to say when I was your age" argument is bullshit, for one simple reason.

I am not you.

That argument applies to no one, because everyone has their own unique life experiences. Especially when it comes to major life decisions like whether to have children, you have to assume that no one will have the same line of reasoning as anyone else. It's unbelievably condescending to say that to someone, especially someone you don't really know. For all you know, I could have been abused as a child and have really terrible memories of childhood, and thus would undergo life-shattering amounts of trauma in trying to raise a child myself (I wasn't, I had a fairly stable childhood, but that's beside the point).

I hate to bring up the gender thing, too, but I think it's a valid point in that having or not having children means something different to women than it does to men, especially in Western society. It's gotten much better in recent decades, but there's still an automatic assumption that women won't be fulfilled unless they become mothers. No one talks about men's biological clocks or expects them to become "soccer dads" while balancing a career, so on and so forth. For a woman to truly make the decision to never have children means facing off against immense social (and oftentimes familial) pressure, plus everyone's automatic assumption that you're just saying that because you're young, wait till your hormones kick in, blah blah blah. Since basing a major life decision on your hormones is obviously a much better course of action than basing it on years of careful and logical consideration. (I know you didn't say anything about hormones, T.I.E., this is just an argument that tends to go hand-in-hand with the age one.)

I know you didn't mean anything by it, T.I.E., this is just something I run into an awful lot. I think I've only met one person who hasn't said that, and instead high-fived me.

In summation, boy, am I ever tired of hearing that I'm only saying I don't want kids because I'm only 21.

Answered.

Just to further clarify, I'm just being an argumentative bastard. The strongest emotion contained in my above post is mild exasperation.

By the by, I wasn't trying to change your mind there, jus tcurious about your reasons. None of us have any right to tell others how to live their lives, and if you made that decision, it's fine by me.

Stefan, thought you were married?

Nice avatar, Aaron.

I'm usually "temporary married"... actually, I am now...
I might be too difficult but I'm still looking for something so very special called true love... call me gay if you wish in the meantime, I go along with some fine women and don't feel too sorry for myself

You stereotypical Frenchman, you. Why'd you marry her if it's not true love? For the money? (what do you do for a living?)
