I'm not trying to cause trouble here, but it just seems to me that most of your posts recently have revolved around mentioning you like popular bands, and then picking fights with people who don't. (Accusations of snobbery, narrow mindedness, etc). Is this provocation or are you just trying to bring metalreviews.com into the mainstream?

Well, that is just ridiculous. I pick no fights with anyone, I discuss music no different than you. Tell me why people seem to take offense when anyone here defends a band that is "popular?" Answer that question, and then you'll have your answer to your statement above.

If "Accusations of snobbery, narrow mindedness, etc" was directed at me, I'm not quite sure how you got that. If you are saying that I've made comments like that then I'd tell you to piss off because I've not once ever done that on this board.

This whole thread is about how metalheads dislike bands that are popular. Therefore, you're accusing metalheads of being cultural snobs.

Actually, that's not what I'm doing at all. I'm sorry that you've misunderstood.

I don't believe you...

Quote:
I'm not surprised. Just trying to get people to discuss it logically, or maybe even get people to look at it from a different angle because I feel like this if-you're-commercially-popular-you're-no-good attitude is a serious detriment to the music scene that I love. So what if a band gets popular? You turn your back on them? What kind of a fan does that? The scene and the industry sucks now, this sort of thinking is just another support beam for that. You know? The same goes for young kids, or teenagers, coming out swinging and trying to change history. It doesn't help.

And this is all a recent change. It didn't happen 10 years ago. Those trying to go against the trend are simply following a different trend. A worse one.

Honestly, I don't mind the whole mainstream thing at all, really... It's just that when people start comparing Evanescence favourably to the Gathering then there's something wrong with the world.

There not that bad. They have there weakneses and shit but you can see that in any band.
I see no real reason people need to be upset about Evanescence when we have bands like the used, coheed and cambria, my chemical romance etc....

Co & Ca are awesome. Go listen to a complete album.

I like The Used :P

Omg Ken's a spy from Roadrunner records and he's trying to turn us all into Slipknot fans.

I'm proud of being a cultural snob. Why listen to crap when there's truly great music available?

they are... just have to remember how easy it is for a metal band to be called sell-outs to realise how very snob metalheads are...

I don't disagree... I'm just observing that the issue's been a bit of a hang-up for Ken, recently, and wondered why... He seems to have taken it kinda personally though :?

Why not just accept it? Like Jurgen said, a lot of metalheads are proud to be seen that way.

Just to annoy Lizardtail.....

Seriously, as Rio said, part of metal is snobbishness. Don't we all think of ourselves as being above the herds that listen to rap etc?

Ken doesn't think he's a metalhead, I think that's where the problem lies... and then, what's wrong with elitism if it's really true ? the problem is a lot of metalheads do enjoy some mainstream music but they're ashamed of it... the reason is beyond me...

Jesus had to run on it. You try and drown Rasputin. Go ahead, try. You can't.

And I thought you liked sick stinky freaks, being one yourself?
