Post subject: New Music Download: Suspyre
PostPosted: Fri Jan 13, 2006 9:49 am
Just heard it. Just ordered it. My faith in underground US metal is rising once again! Core Device, Cellador, Winterfell, The Gates Of Slumber—to name a few—and now Suspyre. I just stumbled across them from reading a REVIEW of their debut, The Silvery Image, over at BEYOND EAR CANDY.

The review gives it a 5 out of 5, so I had to check them out. There are four short clips on their website, but there are three full songs—which can be downloaded—on their MySpace page. They sound excellent! This is some killer power prog-metal from another US band (New Jersey), which is awesome. It's good to see some good bands springing up all over the US in the past few years.

Anyway, these links should work, but if they don't just go to the MySpace page to download/listen to them. "Serpent I Am" is fucking awesome.

SUSPYRE - SERPENT I AM
SUSPYRE - THE CITY UNDER SANDS
SUSPYRE - LAST OF THE SURVIVORS

They've very good. Lots of weird time changes, but still catchy and not over-indulgent, you know? MySpace is always not working, so check the clips on their site if you can't get MySpace to work.

I ordered the CD, so I'll give my full opinion when I get it, then I'll probably review it.

That's the gayest picture of gollum ever and he's not krieg at all. You know who's krieg? Bilbo Baggins.

Apparently. I'm pretty excited about it, I can't wait to hear it. Beyond Ear Candy gave it a 5 out of 5, but if you read the review it kind of comes off a little biased. I hope the score is accurate because those three songs are great.

Well, that review indeed seems a little over-enthusiastic..

Looking forward too the unbiased review on this site :)

I guess its ok...not terribly original though. It seems like there's a new band like this every day. Anyway, well played but like all metal in this vein, its wayyyy too polished. There's no edge or ferocity to it. Neo classical metal has been played out for me, but hey, the rest of you should enjoy it.

Well, I got this today. Listened through once and I'm happy to say the review is pretty accurate. It seems like a great CD. It's progressive power metal. No, not original, but damn good.

I've just got around to listen to the 4 clips and from them all I can say is that they sound dull. Nothing really innovative here. The prog side sounds like Symphony X and the neo-classical like Stormwind. Maybe when the review is up i'll check this again.
