...I listened to Dragonforce and liked it. :oops: :oops: :oops: I also heard a track off the new CoB (Lost, Trashed And Strung Out) and liked it. What the fuck is wrong with me? Can anyone help? And can you recommend more "technical" power metal, blackened power, basically anything unorthodox enough that I might like? As long as it's not traditional (ie not Hammerfall, who I don't like after all) I'll give it a go.

And speaking of the Dragonforce, I couldn't listen to more than two tracks at once from their website. Is the new album different enough to keep me listening, or is it maaad speeeeeed alllllllll the way through?

maaaad speeeeed allllll the way through. That’s what they do. As for power metal recommendations for you;

You've already heard Wintersun, ummm... you might like X Japan - Blue Blood. They are very over the top with their image, but their music is different from the stereo typical power metal you are accustomed to. Also, check out Divinefire. They have a lot of black metal influence in their music. The production is extremely crisp, which might push a black metal fan away, but you can still hear black metal elements. I’ll think of some more later.

If you want black power, I suggest you join the Nation of Islam.

Are you talking about the christian power metal band ? What are the black metal elements you find in the band?

To Zad question, you should try:
Squealer - The Prophecy (it's the only album i've heard, but it's great)
Cydonia - The Dark Flower

I never knew they were a Christian metal band. Hmmm... anyway. Listen to the backing harsh vocals and even the structure of the songs. I don't know, I guess they just have their moments of black metal, it isn't all that obvious though.

You don't? I thought you liked some of the cleaner stuff.

Zad!!

I have one more band I think you should check out (actually just one album by this band). Check out the new Adagio. It's called Dominate. I don't know if you're big on Dimmu Borgir, but I heard somewhere that they were one of Adagio's biggest influences. This CD is very dark for power/prog metal.

If you want to listen to some good Power Metal, you should try Jag Panzer, Hexx , Virgin Steele Or Cloven Hoof, there is nothing "Happy" or "gay" about those bands, you know, when Power Metal started it was supoused to be a mix between thrash and Heavy Metal, i dont know much about Black Power metal but check the bands i mentioned and compare them with the general idea of Power Metal like hammerfall or stratovarius, and you will hear a big difference.

All I have heard of Dragonforce is a few downloaded songs from their website while they still were called Dragonheart, and dispite being a stereotype it's definitely listenable.

Looking up X Japan at moment....

Edit: can't find any clips. Turning to Divine fire...

Edit 2: Not bad, although a bit OTT on the Christianity. I'll come back to them...
