I'll go with Pure Holocaust; it has to be one of the best, most intense albums in Black Metal history.

I go with Pure Holocaust too. Though, this one was kinda hard choosing between it and At The Heart of Winter.

I have only heard two of them.. (SoND and ATHOW) .. but At The Heart of Winter is now my fave - just took longer to grow on me.

Sons of Northern Darkness. It was actually the Metal Reviews review that made me buy this album (thanks Danny). It also holds a special place in my heart because it was basically my first black metal album (yes, I'm still a black metal noob).

More importantly though, where did you get that fake album cover from? Its hilarious.

SoND is amazing and I would call it anything before calling it 'flimsy'.
Good fucking production (Peter Tägtgren is godly) and I love how they incorporated different metal styles while still retaining some of their former black metal sound.

I don't think Immortal's last 3 albums are black metal. They are thrash/heavy metal with black metal influences. They are very good though. Sons of northern Darkness is my favorite album overall by them and my favorite black metal period album would be Battles in the North.
