I'll say it a million times, "Falling Into Fantasy" is one of the baddest metal tunes I've ever heard!

Am I the only one who thinks the new Sigh album is Avant Garde Power Metal?

Damn, I'm so glad Opeth didn't win the People's Choice Awards, Dark Tranquillity beat them by just a few points!! :D

Whadya mean? It won the best overall album.

No, that's logically impossible. You can't finnish second in your own genre and finnish first in the overall league. That's like saying that a Big Mac is not the best hamburger, but it is the best food!

Not everyone votes for all categories.

As for Cellador, I agree. I put them as one of my 2005 surprises. I've had in only—what?—a month? I've listened to it about 200 times. Hehehe. I thought I read that they've finished recording the new one somewhere?

They come back from Florida (recording studio) Sunday.

Ghost Reveries winning #1 people's choice makes me sad.

Very, very sad.

Just wanted to say great job to everyone who runs the site. I thought the people's choice awards was a cool idea. If for no other reason than to get alot of people to see band names they have never even heard of and say "I'll go check that out."

I was only able to listen to about a dozen or so releases from 05' since I spent most of my CD budget getting old albums I didn't have yet. The only band I was really concerned with was Dark Tranquillity, to me they were a shoo-in. I mean you just had to give it to these guys for comming back year after year, after year with great albums when all their melodic death peers are heading in completely different directions. They release fresh albums while staying true (enough) to what they already established. That is quite possible THE hardest thing to do in music.

Ghost Reveries was the first Opeth album I ever checked out after seeing high praises all over the web. People swear up and down by Opeth like they are THE band. So I said what the hell, and got their newest one, and I gotta say, I was very dissapointed. I'm sure someone will say "hey now you just have to get the old stuff," but regardless Ghost Reveries is a lifeless and boring album, and the fact that such emasculation could win best all around only proves what a fanatical fan base these guys have. Hell, the review on this site was boderline Opeth felatio.

Anyway, I digress, overall the awards were very fun (especially all the arguing) This is easily the best metal site I have seen, keep up the good work fellas.

Same here. My first Opeth album. But, I had a different reaction, I was actually quite impressed. :)

These people have what I generally think of as "First Band Syndrome". What happens is that they are introduced to a genre, say extreme metal, by a band that fits into those genres contraints, but also has traits that anybody who likes music can enjoy, say Opeth. Before going on to explore other bands, they listen to Opeth a ton and it becomes one of their favourite bands, and already in their opinion the best of the genre. Then when they do decide to search deeper into the genre they use Opeth's standards to judge everything else, and since Opeth are not like even other melodic death metal bands they generally think of these bands maybe as "good", but not as awesome as Opeth.

Or something like that I guess...

I suggest you check out Still Life or My Arms, Your Hearse because they are much more energetic, dramatic and emotive than Ghost Reveries.

It's being produced by Eric Rutan (Hate Eternal, Morbid Angel, I think he also had something to do with the new Cannibal Corpse.) It will be interesting.

Interesting. I think they had a winning formula on the EP, though. Hopefully they didn't stray far from it and become a typical power metal band. They definitely had a unique, modern yet old school sound on the EP.

Everything on that Demo was done by Chris except the lead vocals. I've known him for long time, he is very... different. But he is also a perfectionist and he is very passionate about his music. Expect another solid release in 2006.

Well it's going to be interesting to say the least. If they want to be taken seriously in this game then they better hope they can deliever a solid first release.

If anything, I think the Opeth-haters are the fanatics around here. I mean, jeez some people sound like they would personally like to wipe them off the face of the planet.

I'm not a fan of Opeth but I'm not shallow that I will bash them like crazy.

I like everything opeth did before 2002, I don't really understand why people would fall in love with them... even Still Life kinda got old after 50 or so listens.
