and on the other hand you can't be truly happy having no money.

To take an extreme example, what about our hunter/gatherer ancestors? They were probably relatively happy with their natural and social riches. I think it's just inequality that makes people unhappy.

Or maybe happiness is the wrong word. A more superficial word like satisfaction might be more appropriate.

We can't know how happy they were. And at those times skins, weapons, food equaled to money because there was no money.

Tose with more food and warmer clothing must have been happier than the starving freezing ones.

But those are all needs - I don't think anybody is saying we can be happy without food, shelter and clothing.

Money doesn't give you TOTAL happiness, but helps to achieve it. Money buys food and a house, you can't be happy without that. On the other hand money can't buy real love for example, and love is very important as well.

I guess happiness and satisfaction from wealth depends on how you earned it. If it was, say, an inheritence then you may not have the sense of responsibility to spend it wisely. Also there may be a nagging feeling of inadequacy. However if you worked your ass off to achieve your wealth, but more importantly by doing something you really enjoy (and is honest) then your wealth can bring you all the happiness in the world.

I agree with that, you have to earn it. A couple of friends who drove in their BMWs ended up trying hard drugs and experiencing wierd ends of their sexuality because if you have everything then nothing is interesting so you try to push the boundaries. It must suck to never fell satisfied, nothing makes you happy because everything is as far as your wallet.

I say if you earned it, then you know what your life was like earlier so you know better to spend it wisely, but if you didn't well then I won't blame you for turning into Paris Hilton or some other party crack whore.

I think you can seperate the act of earning money, and posessing the actual money.

Earning the money makes one happier because it's the satisfaction of achievement.

Having money is the satisfaction of posessing wealth, or being able to supply oneself with needs and wants.

Money stand in little relation to happyness, but no money or moneyproblems garantee the absence of forementioned.

It all depends. One person could be happy with nothing, another could have everything and still not be happy. Personally, I'd just take the money. "Happiness" is only chemicals in your brain, after all.
