Let's just face it, the American government sucks as well as Americanisation for the reasons Sir Wanksalot mentioned, and for things like torturing people (yes, that's quite a big issue here now, as laws prohibit torture to take place here, the CIA and other orginizations have prisoners sent to other countries like Egypt and Romania, to be tortured there). But most of our countries suck for blindly lining up behind them. And if they refuse to do that, they suck for a different reason, like mentioned, France raping the third world with their import taxes. America is doing the same though. I still consider the American government to be biggest bug of them all, but the rest of the world comes not at a really far distance for accepting their leadership, or submitting to their blackmail.

Wow am I glad I never turned on the computer over the last two days....jeez.

First... I fail to see how I have kissed any members asses, I guess saying THANK YOU for a word of support is not in the Aussie's Book of Ettiquette. Not very perceptive, are you?
Second, talk about the pot calling the kettle black:
you invited yourself into this discussion by the big peoples way of entering a discussion, namely by telling me to "fuck off"... then you grew even more big-people-like and wished me a "happy new year, motherfucker"... oh and how about this beacon of MATURE discourse: "I'm assuming V is the return of Uber Self Righteous Turd Valefor"... and when I respond in king, you get all indignant and "take the gloves off" :roll:
as for Americanisation: if you are going to reject all things American, I guess you should sell you computer, shut down your internet, sell your automobile, television, well, hell the channeling of electricity was an American invention, so any electronic device would useless, since purely out of principle, you will be turning off the power that feeds ypur stereo and your DVD player, both of which, yep, are AMERICAN imports...
I could list things that and ideas that you and other countries have IMPORTED from America 'til my face turns red, white and blue, but I thibk you get the gist .

Let me just say this once, we are being fleeced shamelessly, and their isn't a damn thing we to do about it.
I have actually seriously tried talking my wife into relocating to Europe (I would LOVE to live in Ireland, the land of my ancestors)
but she can't leave her family behind.
A little rundown on how most of us live here:
almost everybody I know either works two jobs while their spouse holds down a day job, to boot or travels far enough away that they have to live in a cheap motel during the workweek, seeing their families only on weekends, just to make ends meet. I am very lucky in that my wife and I make sufficient money to barely get by, our mortgage alone is $2,700 a month... that does not include car payments, a thousand forms of mandatory insurance, groceries, electricity, water, gas, clothes, etc... while trying to save for the inevetable future when we will be unable to support ourselves. Not to mention the tax, tax, TAX... roughly 35% of my paycheck gors to the government.
We are overworked, overstressed and completely disposable to the corporations that run EVERYTHING here.
All the slagging that takes place here concerning the state of things in my country is adding INSULT to INJURY; try to put yourself in our shoes.

Not stricrly... my perception is that the so-called wariness is directed at the supposed culture of America... and you missed my point completely.
The point is that there are some aspects that are good and beneficial to everybody, just as there are some that are not so good, and to paint America as such a general picture of decay and brutality is flat out wrong.
Incidentally, nobody is forcing those of you abroad to consume anything American; if the were no demand, there would be no supply, it's that simple.

For the record, I believe that ALL U.S. money should spent at home, not on various foreign misadventures.
I am an isolatioist, as much as possible in todays world at least.
All the BILLIONS of dollars spent on aid and war should be spent on schools, and health care, etc.
On top of that, the money NOT being spent on aid to other countries and destroying other countries would mean much lower taxes for all of us that have to break our backs to eke out a living.
Right wing or left wing... they are just two sides to the same coin; the corporations run the show and we are the peons. Thta is the problem, not some difference in some fucking lame ideology.
Politics are by their very nature an impedence to progress, a cheap parlor game where the principal players make out like bandits at the expense of "we the people".
