Oh, I'm tolerant. Just not of silliness or stupidity. Flamewars are both.

Just a word of caution, T.I.E. You and Winter have history.

but still, silly 80's born metalheads who just can't understand why Sabbath was a much better band in the seventies piss me off... the fact my "oponent" was (angry)WiC doesn't change I had to say my word !

Naah, just me being me.

I agree with you about what I've heard of BS, though, Ozzy > Dio, solo stuff too (only just, though).

Man, you suck.

Heh. Just never got into it, I appreciate it's good and influential and all that, but.....pah.

you should try Black Sabbath when Dio was with them in early 80's...

...and then notice that, even with a better singer, Dio's Sabbath was not up to Ozzy's Sabbath ! :P

that is because they are much better.

70s was also the time the mighty Maiden was formed. Of course they released their first album in 1980. And yeah, Sabbath with Ozzy never appealed to me. I prefer Sabbath with Dio and the tremendous Tony Martin.

Can't say I agree with that. When Dio joined Sabbath they finally came full circle. Great Guitars and a great singer. Ozzy...was always a pedestrian affair. Dio, now that guy was an amazing singer.

After only having 'discovered' metal this year ( thanks to this site) i've naturally been led to 70's rock!

+Black Sabbath+ (only heard 1-6)
Deep Purple
Cream - 60's?
Led Zep
Uriah Heep
Sir Lord Baltimore
Blue Oyster Cult
Captain Beyond
Yes
Budgie
Blue Cheer
Motorhead
Rainbow
The Who
Van Halen

Yet to hear Thin Lizzy, but from what i've heard they're fucking great!

Btw, Classic section is very helpful, so are most of your discussions :P

indeed Thin Lizzy rocked ! :D

here's a sample :

I feel I have to mention Wishbone Ash too. like Thin Lizzy, less metal though, they greatly influenced metal and particulary Iron Maiden for the use of the "twin guitars"

That Thin Lizzy sample was great, sweet melodies!

Also checked out a couple of tracks from Argus, nice riffing and soloing
especially on The King Will Come, gotta pick it up soon :D

Yes!! Thin Lizzy kicks ass!!! i love this band and their progress from jazz/blues/rock to hard rock, every single instrument in every single song is perfect - MASSACRE - live versoin = AWESOMEEEEEEEE, for me the best pre-metal band in 70s and 80s :D

And still,as always,no one mentioned Queen, which were part of the heavy rock scene during the seventies, also they were the most original band from the scene, influenced metal and continue to heavily influence most of the bands from the power symphonic epic progressive metal scene!

And then there's also the mighty Rush!
