Do you get all those CDs for free?

We purchase more than 97% of the CDs that you see regularly arriving to the site. We do get some promos, but not a lot. The site is almost completely non-profit, and when the amount of time spent on it is considered, we are definitely in it for the love/support of power metal.

agreed, although metalcdratings review more albums, and those reviews are quite nice

Sure, this is a great site, especially for those who like a lot of different styles of metal.
For those who are mainly into power metal, I think the Metal CD Ratings site is very helpful though.

Honestly, I've never thought of supporting metal as a competition. I visit other review sites just like all of you. In fact, this forum is one of my top 3 regularly visited. 8)

I like this website better simply because of the board. When I just visited the main site and checked reviews, it was neither better nor worse than other review sites. I like Clint's site, but it does look like it was made in 1988!

I hate the rating scale, but most of the reviews are well written. Heh heh, the site does look pretty dated, but over all it is very informative.

Yeah, that site does suck man. I could make a wayyyy better site than that and i've only been in web design for a semester.

If you're going to keep that old school look, I've said it before, you need rotating, flaming skull gifs!

Interesting... I believe you're the first one to not like the rating scale. The site used to have a 10 point system, but there were MANY who complained, so I revised it long ago. 8)


As far as the design... it's intended to be a text-filled information site. It's just how I (and my colleagues) want it. Different, simple, but full of information.
One of my biggest goals is to have a site that's easy to navigate. I believe this is accomplished, so my time (as well as my colleagues) is now spent producing as many reviews/updates as we can.

Kamelot's brilliant 'The black halo' arrived to the site earlier this year... a full-review is provided with a 5/5 rating.

Good man and great rating that masterpiece deserves a 5/5.

I received a surprise email today regarding the design of the Metal CD Ratings site and since a few of you on this forum have commented on the design/format, I thought that I might as well share so you know that there are some that really do like the simple format... 8)

I've received emails or input like this before in the past, but since this one was just a few days after the discussion on this thread, I figured you guys would be interested in someone else's view (besides mine).

Simple is good, no doubt, but personally I think the site looks a bit sloppy. It's a great site, and very informative, but it's like buying a house being sold by a real estate agent dressed like a drunken hippie. The house is what's important, but what the fuck are you wearing, asshole?

Although, I don't think "greater than" and "less than" applies to individual views.




I'm the complete opposite of a "sloppy" person, so if the site truely reflects this... it's unfortunate, as I've done the best I can with the knowledge, time and money that I have. 8)
