Sorry to break it to me? Pffft! SOAD, Green Day and Nirvana > You.

Okay, I've finally listened to Mesmerize. And overall, it's.........

Good. I was kind of skeptical about how the band could keep their craziness without it wearing dry, but they somehow managed to do it. One thing I've noticed is that it's quite a bit more complex than other SOADs (ie. the songwriting is a bit more intricate and structured this time around). BYOB actually reminds me of Kill'em All era Metallica, which is a good thing. Lost In Hollywood sounds purely like something out of In Utero era Nirvana. The downside is that the music doesn't sound quite as tight as Toxicity, and it's also missing some of that album's energy.

But overall, a very nice album. I'll listen to Hypnotize a little later.

SOAD broke me into heavy music. Serj has a hell of a voice.

Originallity?
Find me two bands like Agalloch and Sigh.

Yeah SOAD is a commercial metal band, singing about politics and shit that people like. what the fuck are you talking about?

Where is the spirit in SOAD?
Why is it that so many metal-heads hate it, or just do not like them at all? you think all of them just hate them because it's SOAD? No my friend they hate because there's nothin' there.

Keep this in mind too that the world is based on the Angle of Perspective, Hence I respect your taste.

Cheers!

...and Hail To The Might of Metal!

Originality is not exclusive.

First off, SOAD did not form as a commercial band, being commercially accepted is irrelevant. Also, SOAD have about 10% political lyrics. So, what the fuck are you talking about?

The whole point of this thread is that the seemingly vast majority of metalheads like SOAD! You don't like them. Fine.

Hells yeah! Welcome back to the board!

The first metal (or hard rock :? ) album i actually bought was SOAD's Toxicity, and it remains to this date one of my favourite albums of all time. I only got it last year though, so if you haven't guessed, i am fairly new to metal. I now have all of SOAD's albums except Steal This Album, and thats only cause my local music store never has it in, and i never think to order it in. :x

try :
Diablo - Eternium (not exactly melodeath but I feel you can like that)
Gospel - The Moon is a Dead World (art-core aka hardcore + art)
Iommi & Hughes - Fused (old beards can make good music !)
Coroner - Punishment for Decadence (great 80's european thrash, great guitars !)
Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil (but something tells me you already know that one...)

and Eyesore has the most dreadful taste around, do never trust him

NP
Panaceum, samples from their website, not good...

the first riff from Sleep's Holy Mountain destroys Zad's entire library of music! dooooom!

it's funny how we always try to sway the new forumites to our tastes.

haha i wish it was a good possibility that darkthrone could convert him to black metal. i thought darkthrone was the worst band in the whole world when i first listened to them. Now Trasilvanian Hunger is one of my favorite albums :D

See my name ? That's how you spell it. And if you like the song then get the album, I'm sure you'll like the rest of it.
