Yes I know Neo-metal sucks and stuff, but has anyone heard their new cd The War Within? Damn, its amazing. Impressive overall. I've seen some reviews saying some people have compared it to Master of Puppets. Also, all the reviews I've seen of this cd are outstanding. Go buy it, 7.99 at Best Buy and you get the digipack version with a dvd.

1. Its not neo-metal.
2. Its receiving an unjustified amount of praise, its nothing special.
3. Why is there even room for discussion of rap-core?

Sorry, I figured since it was labeled Neo-thrash I believe, I thought it would go under Neo-metal. My mistake, but yeah I really like it.

The War Within is the best album I've heard this year. It's totally incredible. However, this is the wrong forum.

Sorry but it's total hardcore, you guys sometimes must see that bands being hardcore don't make them bad. Shadows fall is an example of good hardcore, with indeed some nu-metal influences. Face it, if a hardcore band is good, you label it thrash metal, and it's bad, then you label it nu-metal! Now I rather stick to my Ulver anyways...

I've always wondered why Trivium was considered a thrash band... I agree, there certainly is such thing as good hardcore. I've been known to rock out to some From Ashes Rise in my day.

I've yet to hear this album, but after seeing how much the reviewers like it I'm gonna have to check it out.

Are you out of your mind? When I think hardcore, I don't think of this watered down version of hardcore we have today. I think of Madball, Sick of it All, Earth Crisis etc.. To say that Shadows Fall sound anything like that is pure absurdity. They have thick melodies, harmonies, elaborate riffs and solos. Aside from the hardcore twinged vocals, this is 100% metal. Hardcore my ass.

I listened to a little of this album and it was much better than I expected, as the band has never interested me in the past. Anyone avoiding the album because of it's "core"-ness or the fact that they're not quite as underground as some bands should check it out. Not saying you'll love it or anything, but it's worth a try.

Shadows Fall entered the Billboard top 200 album chart this week at no. 20 with nearly 40,000 copies sold.

could be, but i stick to my opinion that they are hardcore, not only in the vocals, but in the rest there is a large core influence. now that does not mean that they are not metal, because hardcore is metal and punk together. Most of the riffage is very core too...

The riffage is more Swedish then Core.

And of course there are SOME hardcore influences. They are, after all, a metalcore band. A great one, but a metalcore band nonetheless. One of the few that transcend the limitations of the genre.

I'd like them more if Brian Fair left or died, though. I hate his vocals.

I would say their riffs are a perfect combination of Swedish and 80's thrash.

I agree on calling this Nu Thrash, pretty decent band, not totally my style, but they make worthwhile music :)
Better than all the normal Nu Metal that's been going around lately...

Wow, this is the satement I always had in my mind but I couldn't find the words for. I agree 100%.
Today "Nu-Metal" is used as non-quality label for anything sounding "commercial" and not as what is in terms of music: A mix of Hardcore (which itself is a bastard of Hard Rock, Trash and Punk, i.e. exactly what Shadows Fall sounds like) and Funk/Rap. Where is written that it should not be possible to make high quality music out of this?

hehe, thanks for agreeing, by the way, that typo in the qoute looks incredibly stupid :( . I agree on calling it Nu Thrash too, seems to sum up about everything it's based upon...

Agreed. Well, on the singer point. I prefer The War Within when it comes to overall quality and musicianship, though I did All That Remains's string arrangements. The Deepest Grey is a great song.

EDIT- Fuck, I meant song. This Darkened Heart is a great CD.
