I think this year was good but with less then one month left to Rocket Ride I think 2006 has the potential to be really great.

Rocket Ride is extremely disappointing. But with the new DragonForce, Blind Guardian, Wuthering Heights, Virgin Steele, Devin Townsend... I know I'm forgetting more. Anyway, my point is like you said, I think next year will be one of the more memorable years for Power Metal.

I hope I wont feel the same way as you, do you think it´s really bad or just disappointing for Edguy?

Elo, if you think VGO is their best album, you'll find Rocket Ride dissapointing. Of course if you are die-hard fan of Edguy this album will be just what you are looking for.

For example you take Vain Glory Opera, which is commonly considered Edguy's most solid release, and you compare it with Blind Guardian's Nightfall in the Middle Earth;and you find how overrated Edguy is!

Actually I prefer Vain Glory Opera over Nightfall in Middle Earth. And it´s not because Hansi Kursch is singing on it.

I'd say it is very disappointing for an Edguy record. It isn't bad, but it isn't good either.

Especially when compared to some of the more epiphianic comments that some Edguy worshippers have about it (like the review on this site, for instance).

Just fuck off, stub. We get the message - Edguy is gay. Thanks you for your efforts in bringing this to everyone's attention. Now that your mission is complete, there's no need for you to hang around.

Rocket Ride is very disappointing, and that's coming from me as a fan of both early Edguy and Hellfire Club and the Superheroes EP.

to me every Edguy album was disappointing because they didn't live up to the hype.

Voted "good". It was a great year for power metal IMHO. Both Freedom Call, Hammerfall and Stratovarius failed me but on the other hand we got strong releases from Helloween, Kamelot, Nevermore, Nocturnal Rites, Timeless Miracle, Sabaton, Savage Circus, Gamma Ray....

Nevermore is power metal?

They're a combo of power and thrash really though you can't lump them in one niche because there are several elements in their music.

I strongly disagree they are power in anyway(if you mean power metal like Gamma Ray,not like Pantera)!imo they're a combination of thrash ,Progressive metal,Heavy metal and sometimes they have some Morbid Angel's influences;but they're very far from Stratovarius or Helloween,if you see what i mean.

Power Metal does not equal european bands like Gamma Ray. There's an American Power Metal scene too which is heavier and darker than its european counterpart... comparing Nevermore to that scene it can very well be called Power Metal... though as people mentioned earlier it's a mix of many styles...

imo, Nevermore are not power metal... just plain "old school oriented" heavy metal... I would better define then by saying I think they're a mix of early-Metallica, Queensrÿche & Armored Saint... all that with a modern production which makes it very suitable for younger ears... but that doesn't make it a power metal act... :?

heavy metal is power metal these days... no point using both terms anymore...

:?:

Heavy Metal =/= Power Metal.

Example; Bruce Dickinson's most recent album was Heavy Metal.
