IMHO Avantasia wipes the floor with Ayreon and Aina but I'm sure some of you guys have different opinions...

My vote goes to Turandot or Aida or Il Barbiere di Siviglia, they easily wipe the floor of the choices above.

Go see the real thing, people.

For me this is pretty obvious too...Avantasia rules over all.
You should have added Genuis to the poll, I think there are some people here that appreciate it.

Which Ayreon are we talking about, there is like a ton of them.

I would also have put Genius, Kotzev's Nostradamus, Haggard, Once and Future King part 1 and 2, and Therion in the Metal Opera category.

they are not bands, they are actual operas which you should go see in the real opera.

Avantasia wins this poll eeeeeeeeasily. Aina and Ayreon are both great, but Avantasia is filled with sooooo much more than what Aina and Ayreon have to offer.

Ayreon, just for The Human Equation (my favourite album of 2004), I haven't liked any of his other stuff though.

Since that isn't a choice, I voted for the closest thing, Ayreon.

Well, I voted for Ayreon simply because there are multiple CDs to choose from, though Aina and Avantasia are excellent in their own right.

As for Aina, I have the special 3CD hard-bound book version, and the fucking CD with the album on it is missing! No one would have stolen it, I can't see how it would have fallen out of the case, so the only think I can imagine that happened is that I put the CD in another CD case one day instead of bringing that big hard-bound case. Of course, I have over 4,000 CDs so finding it is going to be a miracle. :(

Anyway i agree with you,Puccini,Verdi and Rossini are quite underrated in the little world of heavy metal,but the best operas have to be found in the Mozart's or Wagner's catalogue:Don Giovanni,Le Nozze Di Figaro,The Magic Flute or Lohengrin,Parsifal,Tristan and Iseult,and of course the biggest opera ever(12 hours):The Tetralogy(the Ring of the Nibelungen).

Not even close, the album may have the word "opera" in the title, but that doesn't mean much. And I don't think we could count Haggard, Therion or Once and Futute King in the category either.
Even though all of those are great 'bands'. I think Trans-siberian orchestra's "Beethoven's last night" and possibly Virgin Steele's "The House of Atreus" could be added to the list instead of those three.

All in all I would say Nikolo Kotzev's Nostradamous is the best one, but the poll doesn't include it.
