If you don't know Mercyful Fate than you are not a metal head and should not be posting on this site.

I wonder how none of you mentioned Michele Luppi (Vision Divine). He's one of the best "newcomers" in the business. Amagzing range,control,power... for me it was like when I heard Daniel Heimann for the first time....WOW!.And he fully proves the above mentioned in the DVD Stage Of Consciousness they have out (although something is fishy about his singing there...too perfect!!!,need opinions on this one). So with that in mind, my VERY shortened list looks like this:

OLDTIMERS:
Michael Kiske (BEST Vocalist EVER, nothing beats his pipes )
Bruce Dickinson (Excellent power, versatility, good range)
Tony Martin (His time in BLACK SABBATH MUST BE PRAISED!!!!)
Geoff Tate (....miss the old times)
Russel Allen (soaring, majestic....a vocal chameleon)
NEWCOMERS:
Michele Luppi (NUMERO UNO!!!!:))
Daniel Heimann (Well, I think we all agree on him :) )
Tony Kakko (on the first 2 albums...luv the accent)
Ben Sotto (well, I like Kiske, and he is also a vocal chameleon)
Antony from Machine Men (still developing but if Bruce would have his range nowadays, he would be ....WOW)

I actually compiled a favourite vocalists list recently. Co-incidentally, they all sing clean:

Bruce
Daniel Heiman
Eric Adams
Boab Halford
Dio
Khan
Hansi Kursch
Mathias Blad
Michael Kiske
Stephen Fredrick

My Top 5 BEST (In order)
1) Matt Barlow (IE or no IE, he needs to come back to metal)
2) Hansi Kursch
3) Russell Allen
4) Ronnie James Dio
5) Bruce Dickinson

As for my worst (no particular order):
Gene Adam (worst EVER, almost never became an IE fan because of him)
Tim Owens (though its not his fault that The Glorius Burden isnt what is was cracked up to be)
Fabio Leone
Paul Dianno

No way! Owens is just incredible. Listen to Priest's Live Meltdown '98. Although he's never appeared on a particularly good studio album.

I just cant seem to find a reason to like his voice. I definitely dont like anything he did on the Judas Priest studio albums and as for the live performances of JP classics, he's nothing compared to Halford, IMO. I find that his vocals are annoying on almost all of The Glorius Burden (all though I will say that I like the way he closes the Gettysburg trilogy). Since I havent seen him live with Iced Earth, I haven't heard him sing any of the IE classics. And I prefer to keep it that way, especially for the songs from Burnt Offerings-Horrow Show.

And yes, part of my gripe with Owens is that he replaced my favorite vocalist, Matt Barlow, in what used to be my favorite band, Iced Earth.

But, hey I can respect the fact that you like Ripper's voice. I will even say that I can understand your reasons. But if you ever said that you thought Gene Adam was a great vocalist, then I'd have no choice but to kill you.

James LaBrie - Well, being the obsessive Dream Theater fanboy that I am, could you expect any less? :D

Warrel Dane - He was never an acquired taste for me. I loved his vocals the first time I ever heard them. So unique...

Hansi Kursch - Now Hansi is an acquired taste. I was neutral about him at first, but now I realize that he's amazing!

Matt Barlow - For pure power, I'd choose no one else. He sounds like a lion, or something.

Bruce Dickinson - Of course the Air Raid Siren would have to get on my list. He's great.

Khan - He has so much emotion in his voice, it's unbelievable.

If guts are less important than "to sing well",than George Michael is even better!!!!

By the way LaBrie doesn't sing that well.
