I just got this last night, been listening to it all day. It's excellent! Who do they remind me of? The vocalist occasionally sounds like James Labrie when he gets a bit gruff in his upper-range, but musical the only band I recall similarities to is Theocracy. Still, I know there's another band they remind me of in there, but I can't put my finger on it.

Either way, great CD. I will review it this week or next.

I hear Twilightning's singer a lot. James Labrie for the high pitched moments.

Musicly I'd say they have a Lost Horizon tone, with... I don't know. Theocracy is a pretty good comparison.

I got the official review copy as well with a note in it. I'm impressed with the music....and mine was free!

I've listened to this EP several times now and here are my comments.

First, I really like the bass a lot. It's far more interesting and engaging that most of the power metal bands out there. The keyboards and guitars really rock as well. Great solos.

The only reservation I have is in the mix. The drums seem to dominate the guitar on several tracks, especially the first one. You need to mix down the drums and mix up the guitar because I can barely hear it!

That is my complaint, as well. I don't really find the drums to be at fault, they sound great, it's the guitar tone. It's simply too...soft, I guess, it sounds very muffled for the most part. The guitar sounds great at the beginning of "A Madien's Kiss," but then when everything else kicks in the tone just gets lost. A beefier guitar tone, more prominent in the mix would have been awesome, especially on some of the heavier parts like at 2:50 of "Soulcaged."

This is a small complaint, of course. The CD is still great.

Hey! Thank you all so much for your comments! I can't overstate the impact you are making by telling us these things. I mean, it's one thing to hear your friends/families/pets say "great music", but it's entirely different coming from total strangers! Thanks a lot!

Now...nothing against you Jay@MetalReviews, but if I had known Eyesore would review this CD on this site, I wouldn't have sent you a copy. But it's worth it for the comments. I never heard Theocracy nor Twilightning, so I'm going to check out on them. Do they have many albums? If so, which ones would be their best? Regarding Lost Horizon, well, it's the first time I hear the comparison, it's interesting.

Your comments about the mix are shared by many...including us. We're going to work differently for the production of our first full-length album...what happened with the guitar, if you're interested in audio and stuff, is that the guitar player uses a POD (a preamp/amp simulator), so we plugged that directly in the console and recorded there. That's why the sound lacks the polish and presence we wanted (of course, if we knew how it would end up sounding, we wouldn't have done that). For the album, we're going to use a twin-output; the sound of the guitar will exit the pod directly in the console on one channel, and will also exit the pod on a second channel through a micked tube amp. That way we'll have twin guitars in perfect synch with an overall heavier, warmer, less razorlike tone. In short, it's gonna rock!

Also, that album is probably going to come very soon, considering all the material we came up with during the last 12 months.

Good to see someone take criticism in stride. :D As for our comments, all you can do is improve. Take Winterfell for example, the released a killer EP a few years ago. It was great, but flawed. They just released their first full-length and for an unsigned band with a limited budget, it's almost flawless. Everything that was bad about the first EP was no more on their new CD! They improved tenfold. Just strive for that. You guys did a hell of a job on this EP. Don't let us down in the future!! :D

As for Theocracy, check out this thread:

Definitely a band worth checking out, Matt Smith wrote and recorded the entire album! It's awesome! Christian, but amazing nonetheless. Your song "Wanderer Of The Ocean" is the song that really reminds me of Theocracy, in fact, I think it resembles the song of the same name the most.

He's one of our newest reviewers. You probably contacted me before he joined the team. No worries.

Whoever mentioned Twilightning is right, you do have a lot in common with them, especially their first album. Their second disc was experimental and wonky, IMO.
