Hey!! A review of L'élu du Mal! I didn't notice this before now.. And a great review by the way.. This is easily one of my favorites of this year. The riffs are truly raw hate and bitter sadness distilled and the atmosphere is great.. The only complaint I can come up with is that personally I would have liked it even better if the vocals were buried a bit deeper in the mix. Don't get me wrong. The vocals are good, but I think the music would shine even more if they were a little less dominant.. Extremely well executed raw black metal.

I'll score this one 80%. It is definately borderline 90%, but don't forget 80% means outstanding.

This album is an excellent example that innovation is not everything. Even though this is plain raw black metal (with a few interludes) it is so well crafted that it stands out as one of the greatest albums of this year.

I found the album as part of a torrent called Clark Metal Pack 5, if that helps anyone looking for it.

Listening to the album now, I like portions of it but unfortunately I am still not as tolerant of particularly raw production as you guys (e.g. Green Hell is still impenetrable to me, but I am very fond of Romances). The production reminds me of Nattens Madrigal.

So yeah, those of you that like your BM with a little more polish, approach with caution.

Looks like I'll be one of the few people posting on the BM voting thread without this album in his or her list :)
