Does anybody else like these french geniuses? Am I the only one? :(

They're great death metal!! Remind me sort of like a happier Strapping Young Lad/Meshuggah... you can get a sample of their stuff here:

I've never heard them, but I heard the Japanese hate them.

It's ok,but there are 7 minutes long songs with only 3 riffs, and no guitar solo,so it reminds me of StAnger a bit!

No solos = :?

I'll listen to the samples again.

They do it well, they dont seem to drag on to me. But then again I've never really been one to judge what makes a good riff or whatnot; I just listens to songs as a whole.

There's also a Morbid Angel influence in there, but no solos;fortunately the drummer is waaayyy better than Larsz!!

Yep, stupid joke, but for something random, here's an album cover I once designed for a punk band:

I've never heard Gojira, sorry. :(

As for the no solos thing, I really think that Gojira works so well as a cohesive unit that if one of the instruments came out above the rest (like in a solo) then it wouldn't go too well with their sound. I mean even the vocalist tends to stick with harmonizing with the guitars.

Godzilla should totally be playing a guitar on that cover

Haha. It was very hard finding a suitable pic at all! =) Godzilla eating a train would have to do. Unfortunately, the creators of Godzilla refused to give us permission to use that image! Bastards.

No solos? At all? That's dampened by enthusiasm somewhat. Although admittedly I was only drawn in the first place by the cool name and cover art for their new album.

Gojira is a crap name for a band.

I didn't really miss solos while listening to it. I mean I didn't even really realize it had no solos until after I finished listening to the album and was like "hey were their any solos in that?", and there's no points in the album where I really think a solo would fit in. =P

Listening to samples again, this is pretty good. I saw "From Mars To Sirius" in my local indie shop the other day at a reasonable price, I might just pick it up...

I think its pretty decent, but its not really the sort of thing I normally listen to. Dunno whether you consider that a good or bad sign. I can see the Meshuggah comparison, but they don't take it anywhere as far as them in terms of eschewing traditional song structures.
