And it's stupendous, well, very good at least! :D I liked Soundtrack To Your Escape, though. I will say I think it's better than that album, but if you don't like their current sound you probably won't like this one.

I've given it a full listen and I like it. This isn't old In Flames, though.

Except a few very mediocre songs, i think the new In Flames is A.W.F.U.L... Still i will check this out! :)

It's times like these I'm glad I don't own a tv anymore.

I got it.

Lemme put it this way: If you LOVE getting kicking in the face repeatedly by an irate rhino, then you will LOVE this album like it was the second coming of Master of Puppets.

If you have any musical taste at all, then you'll hate it with a burning, raging fire.

Just heard it.

There were some catchy choruses, but it ultimately wasn't that good. This album was supposed to be a blend of their old stuff with the new. I'm just not hearing it. It's basically a composite of their last three albums.

This album is exactly a blend of their early sound and their newer stuff. The songs are generally faster and heavier, much like their early material, and much more than the previous two albums, but also with that melody they've discovered over the years.

Honestly, it's not so different from Colony. Sure, there's a bit more melody and less solo work, but this is a great CD. Better than Reroute To Remain and Soundtrack To Your Escape. But like I said, if you haven't liked anything of theirs recently you won't hear anything of the old In Flames here because anything less than them going 100% Jester Race won't be enough.

I disagree.

The old In Flames was more driven by harmonic guitar leads. I'm not seeing that as much on this. The guitar work on Come Clarity is very similar to Reroute, that is to say, plain and boring. I'm not saying it's a complete rehash but it hardly contains elements of the Jester Race or Lunar Strain era (i.e. folk elements, memorable guitar leads and solos). And Anders' clean vocals make me cringe.

Would you say this album is better than the Jester Race? I wouldn't. And I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting them to bring back their earlier, superior style rather than put out something that's way below their capabilities.

Well, first off I said it was faster and heavier like the older stuff, which it is. I never said anything about folk elements, harmonics or solos. And let's not pretend like the folks elements were present on Colony and Clayman. The band has steadily gone down this road since the beginning.

And no, you can want a band to go back to an earlier style, but what about wanting a band to be genuine and write honest music? When a band forces their music we get St. Anger. I can't imagine you'd want In Flames to release their St. Anger instead of this stuff? I'd rather a band release what comes naturally to them.

Bringing up St. Anger in discussions about other bands is the metal equivalent of bringing up the Holocaust or calling someone a Nazi- IE: stupid.

The folk elements were still there on Colony; by Clayman, I imagine, In Flames was tired of being broke and decided to cater to the MTV crowd.

Oh please, how do you know that this is genuine? It's terrible. I refuse to believe that Jesper's guitar skills have degenerated this much since Whoracle; he might as well be Wes Borland (who is not a good guitarist, by the way, just for any deluded souls who think he is) for all the good it does the band.

You listen to Come Clarity, then you listen to Whoracle, it's obvious that he's just restraining himself because his new guitar work is ludicrously simple, comparitively speaking.

Their new direction is as honest as a used car salesman.

This makes absolutely no sense.

How do I know it's genuine? I don't, but I assume it is! I have to! You say it's not because you don't like it. Well that is a childish justification. To claim that they changed to pander to the MTV is ridiculous and sounds extremely whiny. First off, they changed BEFORE the whole MTV-Embraces-Metalcore era!

Also, being a musician has nothing to do with skills, when you're a musician you write what inspires you, you write what naturally comes out. You ever think Jesper just has no desire to write that stuff he wrote 10 years ago? You call it simple, but what does that have to do with anything?

Just because an album "naturally" came to them does not necessarily make it good. I'm just saying it isn't on par with the In Flames of old. Different? yes. Better? no. A band can be free to experiment but they've consistently been recording below average albums. And if this is what's "naturally" flowing from them then I think it shows that they've run out of gas.
