Well, four songs in and so far I'm pretty disappointed.

Edit: and things have picked up a bit on track 5.

"Sacrifice" was pretty dissapointing. Let's see how "Rocket Ride" sounds.

Hopefully after my second spin I'll like this album better. Until then, I'll say, this album is very dissapointing.

I think it's excellent aside from like two songs, "Trinidad" being one of them. The other I can't think of off-hand.

I like it. I think it sounds like a natural progression from Hellfire club. There are a couple I'm not into, but that could change after some listens.

Ok, I finally got the time to listen this several times in peace and form an opinion.Just to start off with the awful cover.Next is what i think Edguy best song Sacrifice, this song is great and I had great expectations because of it.I listened it 3 times before I move to Rocket Ride and is my fav. song from the album. After that spectacular song nothing else managed to keep me as excited. All songs have that recycle feel and just to point one thing...The Asylum is exact copy of Piper Never Dies.Listen to the 2 songs and tell me it's not so.
Other good songs I can point out is probably Wasted Time, Catch Of The Century and of course Superheroes. Save Me sounded much like an MTV pop song...just dreadful.
Edguy haven't manage to put a better album since VGO and this is a further step in the wrong direction.

This statement is very True, but Im gonna take the album for What it is. Everyone bashed both Eps (superheroes and the one that precursed Hellfire (forgot the name) and I liked every song on both eps. So i dont have as much of a problem with the more 80s induced rock presence. I will judge this for what it is and the style that the album fits best. I am pretty sure I will agree with Eyesore and like this regardles of the chosen genre they have ventured towards.

All I have to say is, my expectations for this album were very high after hearing the Superheroes EP. But after a few listens, this album is very weak and has only a few solid tracks. Those being "Rocket Ride" "Out of Vogue" "Return to the Tribe" and "Superheroes" (which IMO was one of the weaker tracks on the EP).

I wished Spooks In The Attic was on the album.

Anyway i figured why The Asylum sounds so much as Piper Never Dies.Well many people thought PND was the best song from HC, epic and whatnot.I disagree with that but Edguy still have to feed their hungry fans, right.Just as with Lavatory Love Machine and Superheroes. The 80's feel would have been a good addition to their sound if it wasn't so recycled.

Yeah, very much like Superheroes.

Yeah, I could settle for it on an EP, but as the art for a full-length? :?

I'm getting a strange Tankard vibe from it.

Edit: God-cursed promos. "You're listening to the new Edguy album, Rocket Ride." I KNOW WHAT THE FUCK I'M LISTENING TO!

I'll be saying those words in my sleep at this rate.

I remember when Nightwish's Once leaked it was like that, I listened to that version so much that when I got the regular version I expected those interruptions! Hahaha. It was like something was missing!

That's what happened to me and my brother on the Superheroes EP.

So far i've listened to this once and i'm undecided there are some cool songs but nothing to match up with the best of Hellfire Club. Right now I'm kinda disappointed but only because it's Edguy and I was expecting a 95 or above album. Right now i'd give it about a 90, but it may grow on me.

A 90/100?

I'd give this at the most, 79/100.

You know there really is no big difference between 90 and 95.Both scores are in the masterpiece category. The fact that you are dissapointed with the album should also suggest a lower score at least in the outstanding or very good category. For me this album is around 60.
This is one of the things Zad was trying to point in the "No Scores" thread. If there is a poll or something I would vote for a system 1/10 instead of the current 1/100.It would make the scoring a bit more accurate. At least that's what i think.

Hellfire Club was horrible in some way. Great songwriting for sure, but listening to songs like 'Lavatory Love Machine' just pisses me off. So over the top cheesy fucking power metal... grrr...

Hopefully this new one is a bit better...

Yeah, your right that is high. I was tired when i writing that last night. It would probably be more like an 85 right now, but I'd give Hellfire club like an 97-8.

Yeah, Edguy has a lot of kick ass choruses.

I've listened to this album a couple more times now and I like it quite a bit. It's catchy as hell. Personally I would have like Hellfire Club part 2, but this is still a very enjoyable album.
