Heard a track from their new album (restarted my ailing relationship with Terrorizer) and my opinion hasn't changed, seems more corey, and there are much better core bands (Gay For Johnny Depp! Homocore ist krieg!!!)

So is it the same shit again? That would be dissapointing...

It didn't seem to have progressed much from tP'sP... I was kind of expecting an enormous leap similar to that made between the first two.

I'm going to try their first album material out, not having realised it was BM.

Ever so slightly BM.... Actually this could be another one for the pronunciations thread?

The more I listen to these guys, the more I like them. Maybe I was a bit hasty in writing them off....

Zaster and ED part 3: I like them. Anything with screaming always takes me a while to get into.

Is Rephormula just Phormula with some bonus tracks, or are they two different albums?

Rephormula is just Phormula with some extras.

OK, that's going on my shopping list. I want to get the new Sigh first, though.

I love APP, they are so fucking dynamic... The tense quiet parts are like auditory orgasm for me

or something...

Their new album is a lot more eccentric and full of jazzy breaks. And I kind of miss the clean vocals.

I was glad the clean vocals went actually... I always thought they sucked a bit. I like the sound of the new album, although I've only listened to it once so far... Possibly the best yet, I shall have to think upon it further.

I'm a dynamics addict so anything that adds variety to music is good to me, as long as it doesnt sound forced or totally out of place.

if that made any sense at all

The new album is really cool though, I've listened to it like 20+ times and keep discovering new aspects to it.

Well, I've given RePhormula a couple of listens, and I Like. It reminds me of a more avant-garde Emperor, especially the Ulver remix on IX Equilibrium. The remixes and demo on there are good as well.

I love Phormula/Rhephormula, and I get that sense too Zad.

Painter's Palette took longer to grow on me, but is still weak overall. And the new one is still nothing but a dissapointment. The clean vocals were one thing that kept PP afloat, and losing them, coupled with little progression and even less memorable songwriting has effectively put Ephel Duath on the list of bands I used to like.

Phormula/rephormula was interesting. But they seems to have no progression, by the way, almost regression, and PP and Pain Not Really Necessary to Know are weak ones.

Are you on crack? How could they progress OR regress, they're basically a whole new band with a totally different sound.

For their other two albums:

Painter's Palette - Took a while to grow on me, was helped along by the clean vocals's hooks

PNtK - Took even longer to grow on me, but underneath all that insane music that turns on a dime every 5 seconds there ARE actual songs! I think I might like it even more than A Painter's Palette just because there is so much stuff going on; although I still miss the clean vocals.

I found that I liked Painter's Palette more immediately than RePhormula, because it just seemed to have more novelty value. But yeah, once you get familiar with both RePhormula is the better constructed record. I listen to PNTK sometimes, but it doesn't really grab me like the other two did... I think touring with TDEP may have rubbed off on them a little too much, perhaps.

From what I've heard of the new one, it's the kind of thing you just have to immerse yourself in and treat as if it were ambient. Let your brain try and make sense of it, relax.

Agreed. I wish we could convince the bands of the world that DEP doesn't exist, and then maybe they would quit trying to rip them off.
