Which isn't taking into consideration the degree to which all six Maiden albums obliterate any of the four Metallica albums.

You exagerate a bit!!!

This is only your opinion:as for mine, Killers, Number of the Beast, Powerslave, and Seventh Son are incredible, Piece of Mind and Somewhere in Time are great; Ride the Lightning is my favorite Metallica album and I would just call it good.

You're not a good patriot! You prefer maiden over Metallica! Not a very american attitude!! :D

PS I really think Somewhere in Time has better songwriting than 7th Son!!

Heh, that's true. I guess I can't argue with that

I won't disagree that Somewhere in Time has better songwriting, it's up for debate, but I have a harder time getting into it than Seventh Son, which is probably my favorite Maiden album. But that too is debatable.

I don't think Metallica was more consistent than Maiden. Lets see here, and keep in mind I don't really like these albums, but they are Metallica's best. So here are the good Metalli-albums.

1.) Kill Em All (The only one I still like)
2.) And Justice For All
3.) Ride the Lightning
4.) Masterof Puppets

Now here is a list of Maidens good albums in no particular order as this would spark a whole new line of arguing

-Killers
-Number of the Beast
-Piece of Mind
-Power Slave
-Seventh Son
-Somewhere in Time

The final score is 6-4...in Favor of Iron Maiden. So Stefan, I don't really see how Metallica is more consistent.....Fear of the Dark...which is not even a great album, is still better than anything Metallica put out after And Justice....and Brave New World was pretty good, nothing spectacular...but still good. and DoD followed suit. Where as metallica hasnt done anything note worthy since the 80's.

I am in total aggremment on the above lists. Except why did tou leave the (s/t) Iron maiden album off?
It is not much different to killers if at all???

I would add the debut to this list and you have locked this topic down for sure :)
the other albums may have good songs hear or there, but cannot be considered classic albums just because it wears then bands name on it ............lol :)

There's a HUGE different between s/t and Killers, no question about that. While the s/t was quite 70's rock/punk tinged and somewhat derivative of the rest of the NWOBHM, Killers showed the bad taking a really huge step towards their own sound that they're known for today. Really, Killers to Number of the Beast was a smaller evolutionary step.

As for good Maiden albums....all of 'em. Each and every one of them holds a special place in my heart, except possibly the newest one which never struck me as quite as memorable as any of their other releases. Also, Virtual XI is a bit watered down for Maiden and Blaze's vocals aren't nearly as well-fitting as on The X Factor (my fourth favorite Maiden album), but it delivers well enough anyway. Really my favorite heavy metal band of all time by far.

Quite cool to see some people consider The X Factor to be among Maiden's best albums! :D

No way! The first album destroys Killers. Destroys it.

I didn't like the X Factor all that much, but its still head and shoulders above anything Metallica has done in the last 15 or so years. Metallica is a disgrace, the poster children for music being poisoned by corporate bullshit.

I totally agree. S/T totally blows Killers away. I put Killers on the bottom of my best to least best Maiden albums.
I may have called this a tie in my earlier post, but comparing albums....IMO, nothing Maiden has done beats ...And Justice For All

For the record: 1. Justice, 2. Puppets, 3. Lightning, 4. Black Album, 5. Kill 'Em, 6. Relaod, 7. Load

My #1 Maiden album, which is both 7th Son or Somewhere In Time would come in either the same as Puppets or just after Puppets.

But its still a tie :)

I think Killers is better than S/T.

My top three Metallica albums are:
1) Master of Puppets
2) Ride the Lightning
3) Kill Em All

My top three Iron Maiden albums are:
1) Powerslave
2) Piece of Mind
3) Number of the Beast

I personally prefer anything from my top 3 Iron Maiden list to my top three Metallica list.

I think And Justice for All is okay, but I dont really think its all that good of an album. Also, One is way too over-played.

Interestingly enough, I am not very fond of Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. Alot of Maiden fans like it, but I just cant find something to really like it about. I prefer BNW and DoD to Seventh Son.

While i love the first album, i think Killers is a much better album as a whole.

My initial reaction was that the s/t was better than Killers, but after 4 years of steady listens I now prefer Killers by a lot. The s/t does have the best Di'Anno era song (that'd be Phantoms of the Opera).

Now wait just a minute people, where in my post did I say Killers was a BETTER album than s/t?? It's a notable evolutionary step, but that's a neutral word.

Actually, I'm not sure which one is the better one. I'd rank them close to each other.

Anyone who says 'Metallica' either hates NWOBHM, or is wrong.

One of the two. Possibly both, as well.

If the first applies, the second follows

They don't hate it, they were hugely influenced by it.....but then they crapped out on their influences and went shitty.

He was reffering to anyone who voted Metallica in the poll, not the actual band.

Good fucking call. Metallica is a glorified joke, was never that great to begin with, and eats shit compared to Maiden, in every fucking aspect. Maiden's worst album is lightyears ahead of Metallica's best, no matter what anyone's favorites are.
