Why is David Defeis so awesome?


What is your favorite VS song?


I'm going to go with either "Veni, Vidi, Vici" or "Through Blood And Fire."



I also heard Defeis is narrowing down his latest recordings (enough for four albums) down to one. It is about damn time for a new album.[/i]

For some very goddamn strange reason I haven't heard much from Virgin Steele. Defeis is awesome because he can sing both quite harsh and clean vocals and he can hit some insane notes. From the too few songs I've heard, I think "Dust from the Burning" is my favorite.

Hard to choose... Invictus is pretty sweet. Hell, anything from that album rocks!

Veni, Vidi, Vici! What an amazing song.

Defeis is awesome because he's one of the few singers these days that can put so much passion in his voice even in higher registers.He belongs in the same catagory with Heiman,Midnight,Halford,Khan and a few others in that regard.

Now I got a question for you all.Which album(s)do you like.Me personally I like The House of Atreus Act I and Act II followed by The Marriage Of Heaven And Hell 1 and 2.

Didn't care for their earlier stuff I think their modern stuff is much better.

I have read about these guys once before, never heard anything. But I think now after reading all of this I will give these guys a listen. Im not much of a power metal fan with only bands like Iced Earth, ManOwaR, and Grave Digger are exceptions. So if I could include another good power metal band to that list it would be great, which would be the best album to pick up, for someone who only really listens to 3 power metal bands?

Get "Invictus."

I will definitely look out for that one. But say I can't find that one, what else is purchasing worthy?

Well it depends.I got hooked on them via The House of Atreus Acts I & II some will tell you to start with the Marriage Of Heaven And Hell albums some even say go way back to their earlier stuff to see how they progressed.

Me personally I would tell you to try out Hymns to Victory a comp CD of some of their stuff to see if you like them or not because VS is an aquired taste not your typical power metal band it's more in the lines of romantic,operatic metal if anything.

Let's not be gay. They sing about war, historical events, and even mythology as well. A must have is "Invictus." That album contains many great songs that are not featured on "Hymns to Victory." Start with that, then move to the "Marriage I and II" albums.

That's the general catagory that most lump them in.

True they sing about war,history and mythology but they go beyond what most power metal bands do when they sing those things.

Virgin Steele's best album is by far "Noble Savage", a metal classic by any means, then "Guardians of the flame" with the awesome guitarist and co-founder Jack Starr (who nowadays has a band called -surprise, surprise- Guardians of the flame). If you like House of Atreus pt 1 or Invictus, listen to Manowar, it's who they're ripping off in those albums anyway (despite the fact that I also like these two records). Plus DeFeis has limited his range nowadays, to either those "yaoh" rough vocals, or the high pitched screams, he used to do the entire middle range as well

In any case, a very respected band of the heavy/epic sound, but as in most cases, their older material is better than the new stuff.

I like their older material, but I dont enjoy his voice as much, I absolutely love the "rrrrrooowww" moments in the newer material. I'd have to say my favorite album is Invictus. Then Marriage of Heaven And Hell and at an almost tie, House of Atreus albums.

Best songs IMO: Invictus, Dust From The Burning, Through Blood And Fire, Mind Body Spirit, Veni Vidi Vici, Through The Ring of Fire, Kingdom of The Fearless (The Destruction of Troy), I Will Come For You, Blood And Gasoline, We Rule The Night, I'm On Fire, A Cry In The Night... Bah, too many, great band..
