In hindsight, I shouldn't be surprised over this. The timing was a surprise, sure, I wasn't expecting it to happen TODAY. But for instance watching the End of Innocence DVD, she was barely in it at all. With the only exception being the live performances. I don't get the feeling from the text that Tarja wanted to actually leave the band but that she wanted more to say when it came to decision making (that being much more than any other member), and that she didn't want to put any effort into it. It's her loss, not as much Nightwish's, I've always considered Tuomas to be the front figure of the band anyway.

About new a new singer, if they choose an already established metal female vocalist like Floor Jansen, as was suggested earlier, I would probably loose all interest in the band. When they started out with Angels Fall First what was most interesting about the band was the vocals being something unique and new, and I think that's what they should aim for again. Find an unknown that has a unique voice we haven't heard before. Looking at other bands for singers to snatch sounds more like browsing through someone else's fridge for leftovers.

To those (males) who say they wouldn't hit her: hahahahahahahaha
If Tarja or a similar looking woman would come to pretty much any man looking for sex, he'd take his clothes off in less than 5 seconds. Save this bravado talk for your girlfriends, they're probably the only ones gullible enough to belive it.

I don't think she's going to go into the opera world either. She has a very, very lucrative career as a pop artist. She had a gold single in Finland last year and a duet with the winner of the German pop-idol contest. Her career will probably go more towards mainstream music than anything else, IMO.

As for the sex, well, she's not the best looker but I'd do her in a second.

Good on Nightwish for sticking to their guns, they have all my respect and admiration.

I'm glad you're posting in a non-Miraje thread, you one-armed prick! :D

I'm sad it happened but i'll get over it.
I just hope they don't go for a vocalist that sings opera style or a vocalist that will ressemble too much tarja, it's time for something new and if they hire an opera style singer it'll just draw compairisons and wouldn't do the band any good.

i'd like to see Johanna DePierre( ex Amaran singer)
step in as the frontwoman.

I just think that they have dug themselves a deep hole where no matter who they choose as new vocalsist, that person will forever be compared to Tarja.
"Oh, she's good, but she's no Tarja" etc, etc, etc

An opera singer will draw comparisons, as will any other type singer who has been in a similar band as Nightwish.

Whoever they choose, that woman will have a shitload of pressure on her.

Please, she couldn't begin to fill Tarja's shoes. Good singer, but like Elisa C. Martin, she would fail miserably.

I disagree. Everything after Oceanborn has had Tarja singing in a more traditional female tone, the only problem for a new singer would be tackling the old tunes.

I think Tarja singing style from Oceanborn was still pretty much the same for Wishmaster, with a little change with 1 ot 2 songs. After that, yes I'd agree with you that she did change to a more traditional style.
The old tunes will be hard, yes, i think they wont even try them. Stick with the last 2 albums, plus the new one. Especially that Marco is still in the band and performed some vocal duties from Century Child onwards.

Right, I'll give you that, Wishmaster was about a 50/50 I'd say. Half opera style, half traditional. "The Kinslayer!" What a fucking tune!

I agree with Nightwish, a band and music itself is an emotion, or an expression of feelings. If somebody is more interested in money and image, then music takes a second place and is not from the heart. So there are enough singers in the world they will sure someone as good, or better.

AS by Floor Jansen replacing Tarja, I think After Forever rules, and she should stay there

I can only think your girlfriend is secretely checking what you're writing on this boards, and you're aware of that

I'm single.

I kind of suspected that... but I was addressing to Radical Cut.

I think she could do a good job with the most recent work, but where it would become more interesting is with new material. Although I agree she wouldn't be great on the oldest material. I say they should look forward and simply choose a vocalist that fits the direction they want to go towards.

Really? I didn't know that. Well... this kind of sucks.

That's what I'm saying. Not that she's the most beautiful in the world, but she's allright, and most men will do her (or even worse and much worse than her, for that matter) if they had the chance. Hell, this is an almost entirely male forum, at least here we could live without some of the daily gender-related hypocrisy.
