Post subject: Matisyahu - Hasidic Jewish...Reggae??
PostPosted: Wed Oct 19, 2005 5:32 am
Yeah, yeah...not even remotely metal, but some here may actually be interested in this. If not, it's a good listen just to hear this guy go off on the mic, it's pretty skillful. Click the first two links to listen (they're only streaming files), the third you can download, but it's the worst of the three, the word "Laswell" should indicate why:

Matisyahu - King Without A Crown (Live)
Matisyahu - Heights (Live)
Matisyahu - Warrior (Laswell Dub)

How do you describe this band???

It's really funny that you bring this guy up. One of the graduate students at my school showed me these videos and played me the CD. For not being Jamaican, he sounds pretty authentic.

He's incredibly religious though. When my classmate saw him in concert, he wouldn't touch her just because she was a woman.

Of course, the entire reason she played this for me was to try and entice me to go on some christian religious retreat. Why she was playing me a jewish artist is beyond me though.

Come on, man! Do you know what "Christian religious retreat" means in regular talk? "Alcohol-Fueled Sex Party," that's what!!!

You fucked up.

Considering that it's sponsored by my CATHOLIC school, I highly, highly doubt it.

The lyrics are very Orthodox, if you listen to them 'want Mashiach now' etc, and since the Torah says "don't copy the ways of the gentiles" the guy's doing something wrong...
