I'm big fan of 1184 and Likferd and I don't know of any bands that are comparable to windir. Any suggestions?

Vreid (Windir members) and Legion of Darkness (I just found out about them through Myspace.com).

I heard Vreid long before I heard Windir. I had been thinking about getting Kraft but I dunno... It didn't seem to have that windswept, frostbitten charm that Windir has.

I don't know how much you've heard, but a lot of BM has something in common with Windir. Try Ulver - Bergtatt for a start, or In The Woods - Heart Of The Ages.

Hordagaard sounds very much like Windir, and when i say very much, i do mean very much!!! but you should probably try dloading it instead of trying to find it  i only got Trollskap and it's a decent album, actually, and got clear signs of Windir in it.... he sounds more like Windir than Vreid... btw he has also made some tribute cd's to both Burzum and Windir.. so.. this is probably the closest you'll get to a band sounding like Windir, not only in terms of vox but also the guitarplay that seperates Windir from hell of a lot bands...

Windir is actually what got me started into Black Metal. After that I bought Forest of Fog, and that converted me into more "raw" sounding black metal. So I would take Gast1's suggestions for anything Black Metal (he recommended FoF).

I said black metal in every sentence.

Black metal, black metal, black metal.

That's very kind of you and I'm flattered, but you can take Astaroth's recommendations as easy as you can take mine. The guy knows more bands than I do.

I love the Forest of Fog clips on the website. How does one purchase the album? Is there a link right in front of me on their site that I'm missing? Help a brotha out.

Mail the dude, if you want one album, order the last one, if you want two, order the first one and the last one, and order the second one as well if you want all three. You just mail the dude (he speaks english) and then ask how he wants the money transferred...

Many thanks, O wise BM scholar. The FoF website link is currently not working, hopefully its just temporary.

I was listening to In the Woods' "Omnio" today and wasn't really getting into it at all... Is Heart of the Ages better? A bit too "prog" for me.

Heart Of The Ages is not prog, save a few elements. Omnio wasn't really BM anymore. I'd say check it out, it's a huge difference.

By the way, Bergtatt and Heart Of The Ages don't sound like Windir, but you'll just enjoy them a lot if you like Windir. If you dig rawer stuff too, there are doors opening...

As much as you know of BM Misha (in fact you're the one with the biggest knowledge (also Kim and Skar) on BM in this site), I think that Likferd has nothing to do with Bergtatt.

I don't like Likferd much... maybe with a better (worse) production it would have been better.

EDIT: I just read the message on top of this one

Somebody told me about a band called A Ravens Forest, i heard they're pretty decent, even though i heard the singer is an untalented flaming homosexual jackass...

But they sound nothing like Windir, and I'm glad so because Windir is overrated.

you really like using the word "overrated"... :D but i'd say some of you most beloved albums are overated too  f.ex. i like Untergang more than Nebelhymnen with Forest of Fog... ... hence Nebelhymnen must be overrated since you'd rate it higher than Untergang... Untergang is a really amzing album... so it's underrated....
Even the most underground can get overrated, depends on how much you get attached to a certain album/band, if it feels speciel to you, and/or if the band expresses a certain emotion/site in you, you'd love it even more... so in that context Windir is only overrated if you don't like the music or if you don't feel anything speciel about it in any way.... and "beatiful" bm would always get rated higher by both of us, if i remember correctly ( beatiful means emotional: melancholic, sorrowful, atmospheric etc. in this context), like your Noenum or Forest of Fog... so if you prefer goatworshipping/grim/eval bm, you'd think that our taste/favourite bands would be overrated and vise versa... ( don't take the examples too literally)

he he... what do you have to say to that Misha? :P ( conserning the word "overrated")
