Yet I cannot name one. Thrash may be in stagnation but surely it cannot be replace by some American N Flaymz ripoff bands.

The next person to say that Shadows Fall is the New Metallica gets my foot up his/her ass.

Real thrash is just pushed back deeper into the underground, together with first wave black and death metal. Toxic Holocaust, Bywar, Nocturnal, Vexed, Sauron, Merciless Death, Zombie, Desaster, Hatework, Cut Throat and many more i dont know does good thrash attacks :). Thrash is far from its peak but it's far from dead.

An album that really blew me away was Testament's Gathering. I love the Thrash and Death mixture (correct me if I'm wrong about that). Testament is doing absolutely nothing new so I always get into this endless circle of finding a band close to that sound. I often end up with a metalcore band. Lamb of God comes close (how is log metalcore?- I don't hear the hardcore vocals...anyway...). I guess that's why I imply that metalcore has replaced thrash. Thrash is on a whole different level from metalcore but in my mind its the closest band-aid for the gaping hole thrash leaves in my collection.

I'm also very surprised it hasn't come back yet into the mainstream. It was huge in the 80s in America and that influence is still around. I'm wondering if the metalcore bands in an effort to stay alive and be different willl start leaning towards that end of the sound. Someone should start. That taste is still in our mouths from the 80s.

I heard a track from the new album and mistook it for KsE. They'll go emo, mark my words.
