I like some Opeth too. But I only have the album "Damnation". Great one (I have a very good CD collection - in my opinion - haha...), but surely the other albums of Opeth would deserve a look too !!! I'll keep Ghost Reveries in mind...

Screw that, buy Dream Theater, stick to the good shit.

I would definately say go for Awake. It's a great album. All the others are good but if you like Images and Words i think Awake is their second best album.

Awake was much harder for me to get into than Scenes From a Memory. Awake was the 3rd CD I got from them. Falling INto Infinity is the one I like the least from the lot and Octavarium is just one rank above it....

thats how i'd rank DT albums

1. Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory
2. Images and Words
3. Awake
4. Train of Thought
5. 6 Degrees of inner turbulence
6. Octavarium
7. Falling Into Infinity

Thank you everyone !!! It's always good to get some advice !!! :)
I think I already did my choice...but you can keep sending suggestions, of course !!!

I say try Ghost Reveries by Opeth... it's just how DT would sound if they we're something else than a bunch of useless wankers ! :P

and if you REALLY want some DT (which I can't understand) then Octavarium is their more acceptable...

You know Opeth for me is interesting, i try to get into theyre music countless of times, I liked Damnation, depressing as hell, but good. But the vocals just fuck it up for me, sorry the music is so good and atmosphere all over the place, very moody band, but again the vocals just not my thing. :D

Judging from what I've heard, I would stay far away from everything except Images and Words. Awake and Six Degrees...bored the shit out of me.

I know "Dream Theater" in the way that I only had and heard one album, which is "Images and Words". It's simply GREAT !!! But it's all I know from them.
So, here's my question: Which of their albums do you think is the best, or, let's say it in a different way, which one should I buy NEXT to have a better idea of the band ???
I'm quite confused since they have lots of albums...

Thanks !

Kinda hard choice, but I think Awake is a good choice after Images and Words, but it's not as strong.

Here's my best of list:

1. Images and Words
2. Awake
3. Scenes from a Memory
4. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
5. Train of Thought
6. Change of Seasons
7. Octavarium
8. Falling into Infinity
9. When Dream and Day unite

Meh, I say get When Dream and Day Unite or Change of Seasons.

They are the better choices, they may not be a better choice as far as getting a better grasp of DT's style, however, they are some of DT's best albums.

Well, this weekend I finally got the famous "Awake" album !!
Thank you all for all your recommendations !!! :)
I followed your advice and pick up this one as a second album. I didn't get the time to listen to it yet but I'll give you my impression about it as soon as it's done, ok...

Well...I finally listened to "Awake". One month later. Anyways.
It's a good album in general, but I think I really think "Images & Words" is MUCH BETTER, still.
My favourite songs on this album are probably "Lifting Shadows Off A Dream", "The Silent Man" and "Innocence Faded". I'm not disappointed with "Awake" but I don't like ALL the songs, on the opposite with "Images & Words".

What do you think of "Octavarium" ?

Not as good as their others. I mean, it's good, but I'd go for Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulance next. Every song is fantastic, and it's only a step away from Images & Words. Buy it.

Ha, cool! :D That song has been a favorite of mine for awhile now, and it's the most depressing song I've heard second only to "Dissapear" from the previously mentioned Six Degrees.

I would avoid Dream Theater. Too me that are talented musicians peiceing things together to enthrall you rather that writing a good qulaity song! I have over a 1000 cds and dream theater cds will never be in my rotation. Only if i wanted to bore myself to death with skilled musicians that are way to "prog" for me to deal with
