IMO melo 'death' shouldnt even be linked to anything death metal, it's far from worthy. Ripping Iron Maiden melodies, half-thrash riffs, and half-growl vocals doesnt make it death metal

Anthems they ripped off many Megadeth riffs
And in this album they ripped off maiden..

You know, Anthems wasn't their debut album.

And neither was Wages of Sin.

I put this CD aside for a while and came back to it last week and let me tell you that my opinion has changed positively. This album is very consistent has great riffs and great solos. I can't believe it took me this much time to realize it. Nemesis and Legend - out for blood are awesome. For some reson some of the riffs and guitar passages on one of the songs sounded like dream theater. Maybe the band has listened to DT a lot when recording the songs.

I think the album is pretty good. Certainyl better than the previous one. It really isn't Death Metal at all, though - get rid of the harsh vocals and you've got straight up classic Metal. Which is fine by me.

Burning Bridges is their golden moment to me. Despite what some people say, Johan is and will always be the best vocalist for Arch Enemy. Sure, Angela has one hell of a growl, but I love Johan's passion.

They'll never top BB. Ever.

Indeed. burning Bridges is an excellent album. I like Johan's vocals, at least he had some character and distinction as opposed to the generic cookie monster growls far too many DM vocalists employ.

Although I seem to be in the minority in that I like "Doomsday Machine", I would still tell you to start with their older stuff. Try Burning Bridges or Wages of Sin. That way, you'll get a good sampling of both vocalists.

I'd suggest Black Earth or Burning Bridges, but if you get Wages of Sin, try to get the version with the bonus disc, which features some songs with Johan on vocals. I got that one, and ended up enjoying and listening to that more than the actual cd.
