Lykathea Aflame... Are they like None So Vile Cryptopsy? If so, I'm down.

And Holy Terror, there's alot of GREAT new Death Metal out there. Dead Congregation, Brodequin (Destroys Mortician), Besieged, Vehemence, Origin (The only TRUE percussive Death Metal Act, if you ask me), Lividity, Lust of Decay, The Chasm, Cianide (who play in the old vein, and date far back too, but they are still releasing shit), Internal Suffering, BLOOD RITUAL(!!!!!!!!!!!), Cattle Decapitation (1st album only [Human Jerky]), Vital Remains, Divine Empire, Immolation, Severed Remains... the list goes on.

Autopsy is solid, I know, I know, solid metal, but there is beautiful evolution out there, bands who've expanded on Death Metal, and given it 1000 faces to be reckoned with. Just look at the most recent Morbid Angel album... You gotta admit those instrumentals are godly. That's expansion to the max.

anyone here heard Yattering? dunno why but i find their drumming kinda odd, but in a good way.

Quo Vadis is pretty damn sweet. Martyr is another technical death metal band that I absolutely love, that aren't brutal death by any means.

I've heard of Yattering, but never checked them out. Maybe I will.

Martyr are pretty amazing, and by all rights I should love Quo Vadis too but I guess they just don't hook me in as much, I can never get through a whole album without feeling a little bored.

How about Hieronymus Bosch? I found their album Artificial Emotions pretty addictive.

Heh, not quite. There is definitely that influence there, but they are far more experimental. It's still death metal, but it's hardly one-track. Kind of like a more adventurous Nile.

I agree, though I like Quo Vadis they don't really hook me nearly as much as Martyr or others.

And I've never heard of Bosch but I'll check them out.

Just sampled Lykathea Aflame... Sounds like a brutal version of The Chasm, but not as epic, and a little more catchy (not always a good thing). Definete potential, a purchase is mandatory. If the vox were a bit different, and a little more outrageous, I'd absolutely love it (more), but over all, I'm impressed.

Bosch is cool, but they aren't really technical. On their latest album... they kinda sound stuck in a Vital Remains solo. They older stuff is more technical. They also sound Chasm-ish.

You've probably already heard it, radicalcut, but if you enjoy straightforward dm enough, you may like Divine Empire's latest, "Method of Execution," for they experiment a bit in the same vein of Lykathea, but the heavy parts stay the hell away from the experimental parts.

I haven't, thanks, I'll check it out.

And Lykathea gets pretty epic at times, I can't compare them to the Chasm because I've only heard like one song from them, but you might be pleased once you get all of the album. The melodies can be very grand and uplifting. But anyway, I'm glad you took a liking to them.

Thorazine is pretty good, but watch out for the punk band of the same name. I was gonna name my own band that until I found out it was already taken twice.

I listen to very little DM, i could use some recommendations :P. Anybody know of any good DM in vein with the old school ? I dont like grinding/commercial/modern DM.

I like Possessed, Slaughter, Autopsy, Morbid Angel (first 2), Suffocation (Human Waste/Effigy), Nunslaughter, Death Strike, Sepultura, Sadistic Intent

Arghoslent is pretty good but they are NSDM so it kinda puts me off . Anybody heard Order From Chaos ? Wondering how they sound like, from descriptions they sound awesome. Megaslaughter is good 80's death/thrash from Sweden, if only i can find their cd......

OFC fucking rules! Brutal, filthy old-school shit. The bass player/vocalist later formed Angelcorpse, who are also worth checking out (if you haven't already).

And i second early Death.

I own all the MA albums with David Vincent, Altars Of Madness + Abominations Of Desolation >>> Covenant + Domination, maybe Blessed Are The Sick too

Yes i do listen to Mantas/Death :), they are essential

Yeah i'll probably get one of OFC's albums soon. Sounds right up my alley :o !! I havent heard Angelcorpse but i hear from some guy they are a faster version of OFC. Would definately wanna check out more bands in the same vein !

This (i think) newly formed band sounds very interesting. BLASPHEMER featuring members from OFC, Cacophony, Dekapitator and Jeff Becerra of POSSESSED !

Rudra's latest album slays too, they call it Vedic Metal but the riffs are mainly old school death.

I saw these dudes live in the summer. Pretty good, although i don't listen to much tech-death.

Blessed are the Sick is my personal favorite. It would be perfect without the three filler pieces (Doomsday Celebration, Desolate Ways and In Memoriam).

All the other albums vith David rule too, except for Domination, which pales in comparison to the others.

Blessed Are The Sick used to be my favourite like 2 years ago, but nowadays i cant even finish listening to the album ! Nevertheless the album is still a cornerstone in DM. I dont like Covenant and Domination very much. The only memorable song from Covenant to me was Angel Of Disease, which you can find in Abominations Of Desolation. I never cared for MA after Domination.

All that said, i'm putting on Blessed Are The Sick :P. The Ancient Ones slay pretty hard !

Hah, I've always thought Angel of Disease was an uncharacteristically goofy, archaic song, on an otherwise excellent album. And that they should have left it in the past where it belonged. Different strokes indeed.

And now this thread has made me put in Covenant.
