Demilich. I have only just started listening to this band but technically they are great. The vocals just sound like someone burping.

They're mentioned here, but with a terrible review.. check out Obscura by Gorguts for some fairly vicious tech death.

Yeah, that review was stupid.

Obscura can't be pigeonholed as merely 'tech-death,' it would be understating the genius of that work. It will take you a looooong time to get into, but it deserves a spot in the top ten death metal releases ever.

From Wisdom to Hate is actually a great record as well, just not quite as good as Obscura.

Yep.. Gorguts really are quite special.

Also, check out Tenebris from Poland, they have their own brand of proggy tech death.

edit: Kinda seems like all the tech death bands you pin your hopes upon only end up releasing a few CDs before splitting up..

Well new Death metal totally sucks. Grindcore is stupid, and...what can I say, AUtopsy, Masscre, Pestilence, old Morbid Angel...these are good death metal bands.

Check out Lykathea Aflame then, some similarities to Nile and Cryptopsy but a little more out there.

Also, Decapitated is still probably my favorite modern Death Metal band.

Well seems like I'm back to agreeing with you again. I love the Negation, (although I don't own any other albums of theres yet) I think it must indeed be one of the best DM albums of recent times, and I think Vogg is one of the coolest guitar soloists in any metal genre at the moment.

Much better than the whole Nile/Suffocation etc group, IMO.

Also, I seem to remember downloading some Lykathea Aflame, possibly on your recommendation a few weeks back. This is also excellent stuff.

Agreed (especially about Nile/Suffo et al), and I don't know exactly where your DM tastes lie, but for me the other two albums are even better. The riffs especially are much more wicked on the first two Decapitated albums.

And Lykathea Aflame, awesome. I freaking love those guys, it's always nice to get someone else into them. To think the album has been out for five years and still no one knows about it...madness I tell you.

Well I have the promo video to "Spheres of Madness" from Nihility (?) and I love this song to death. So yeah, their earlier stuff is indeed on my to buy list. Along with vast amounts of other stuff unfortunately, so it remains to be seen wether I shall ever actually own it.

Quo Vadis?? not brutal but sound pretty damn technical.

Decapitated and Yattering from Poland.

anyone here heard Yattering? dunno why but i find their drumming kinda odd, but in a good way.

Quo Vadis is pretty damn sweet. Martyr is another technical death metal band that I absolutely love, that aren't brutal death by any means.

I've heard of Yattering, but never checked them out. Maybe I will.
