Zoetrope, Midas Touch, Burnt Offering, and MX are some I know of that until a while ago, I knew absolutely nothing of. Zoe and BO are bands from the Chicago scene, that's how I learned of them... Let's get some more speak worthy thrash bands... uhhh... spoken of?

Paradox is awesome. Death Row, Sadus, Tankard, Mandator, Watchtower, Holy Terror, Vendetta, Vengence Rising, Living Death, Sacrifice, Exciter, Rigor Mortis, Brocas Helm, ..there's more but I think that'll do for now.

Metallica, Slayer, Pantera are probably the best unknown thrash bands around!

I'm not sure how to answer this one because I'm not sure how to class 'unknown'. H_T lists Tankard but I've always thought they were pretty well known. If by unknown we mean 'non-Big Four' I can say Tankard, Heathen, Vio-lence and a a bunch of others but no real ultra-kult bands. Are Exciter even Thrash? I wouldn't say so.

EDIT> Hmm, I now realise the title of the thread is 'lesser known' and not 'unknown'. D'oh.

I just sampled Sacrifice last night. The vocals really spiced them up, if you ask me. Fun listen. Have you ever delved into Xentrix? I wish I coulda got the scoop on this band, because I read nice things... through the seller of course, but earlier this week I had a chance to snag what was supposedly their best work.

TIE and HT, you both brought up Vendetta and Death Row... Now I'm interested, because that's what you call consistancy.

Assassin, Torture Squad, Mekong Delta, Razor, Bywar, Exciter, Sabbat, Sadus, Piledriver, Shah, Stone, Drunkard, Holy Terror, Morbid Saint, Watchtower, Ulysses Siren, etc...

Ya, I don't really know how unknown they have to be, but these bands are relatively unknown (well, some not so much) and all quite awesome.

Xentrix is pretty good. ANd I'm glad you like the Sacrifice. Great band. HMMM who else. Zoetrope, Bitterend, fuckin Sabbat...dont know how I left them out...but they[re pretty well known. Hmmmm Mordred was pretty good. There's a shitload of chilean bands I'm not even gonna go into, most of them are just ep's and rare tapes...fuck I dont even own them, I'd have to get them from my brother.

Satan's second album Suspended Sentence is pretty thrashy....

Oh and I would call Exciter a thrash band...just like I'd say that Piledriver is a thrash band also.

And Deathrow is great, but Vendetta is only ok...Braindamage is the one I have and its a good headbanging album, nothing brilliant though.

I saw that Sabbat got HUGE props on one of their albums on some other review site... which would you guess that was? Like, someone was calling it the perfect album, and that'll always perk my interest, though the idea is impossible.

Onslaught, possibly best UK thrash band. Xentrix is ok, their sound is very similar to bay area thrash imo. I love Sabbat but the Japanese Sabbat is wayy better !! Hirax's Raging Violence and their latest album is good. Slaughter Lord's Thrash Till Death has some great moments. Sextrash is killer 80's Brazilian black/thrash, so as Vulcano and the mighty Sarcofago. Razor's pretty unknown too, i dont hear enough praises for this band. Slaughter is great death/thrash, they just released a new CD called Fuck Of Death, which is an old rehearsal recording with Chuck Schuldiner.

For today's kvlt thrash, Toxic Holocaust, Sauron, Abigail, Barbatos, Desaster, Nocturnal are very good bands

opps time for class :P

The one off the top of my head that hasn't been mentioned yet is Toxik. I just got their album Think This on cassette and it's very good, although the tape's a little stretched out, you can tell the guy I got it from must have liked it too.

Oh yeah, Detente as well. Dawn Crosby was fuckin great.

Sadus is one of my favorite bands in general, so of course I've gotta mention them.

As long as we're counting Exciter, I'll say Agent Steel. And Exciter too, for that matter.

Does Coroner count as lesser-known? Less than the big four or Germany's unholy trinity, anyway.

Also Flotsam and Jetsam, Heathen, Hirax, Holy Terror, Sabbat, Sauron, and if Tankard counts, them too.

Speaking of the Japanese Sabbat, they're headlining a show in Chicago with The Chasm, Usurper, The Deceased, and hand full of other bands, but needless to say, if shit goes right, I'll be home to see that sucker!!

BTW, I know Vulcano and love Sarcofago, but are Sextrash a violent thrash band like Sarcofago, or something completely different? I'm interested either way.

Gritty thrash not too different from a lot of other stuff coming out in the eighties, but what made them stand out was their female singer Dawn Crosby, who also later song in Fear of God. Fear of God I don't really know anything about, but I've listened to Detente's album Recognize No Authority and it's pretty good. Not great, but definately good. Unfortunately Crosby died years ago, some kind of alcohol-related liver problem.
