I like "Theater of Salvation" ALMOST equal with "VGO". The only difference is that on VGO, I like ALL the songs...while on "Theater...", there are about 2-3 ones that I rarely listen to. But for me, it's still one of the best by Edguy.

I'm seeing them "live" after tomorrow... :P

@ The Voice: I love "The Piper Never Dies"...but I don't know if it's BETTER than "Theater of Salvation"...here, I really don't know what to answer...Probably I'll say that I like more Theater of Salvation for the only reason that I heard that song first...haha :P
It's quite hard to make a choice...

Well what hapen with the Piper never dies is that when i bought the album i was expecting that song to be more like 'the Pharao' good but not great, but i was proven wrong on the first listen, and since its newer than Theater, well it has more impact on me,but i agree with you both are equally great. :)

The general consensus seems to be that this album is better than Hellfire Club, but I need a comparison. How much better, or worse, are we talking here? I think Hellfire Club is a fucking great power metal album, and if this is a lot better, then I must possess it....NOW!

I think BOTH are good as much as each other. This album is VERY VERY great !!! Hummm...Many people prefer the "Hellfire Club" album, but...I think I still prefer a tiny bit more "Theater", but maybe it's because I have it since a long time and heard it a million times more often before to listen to the other...but well. I love the beat for every song on "Theater", while it's not the case on "Hellfire Club". And I like the lyrics better for "Theater". But "Hellfire" is more funny and really kicks asses !! Both albums kick asses, basically.
So I'd finally reply...YES !!! You NEED this album TOO !!!

Thank you for the opinion, but would you mind elaborating on why this is much worse than Hellfire Club?

Afeigel, i suggest you try Theater Of Salvation. You may not like it as much as HC, but it's not that far in quality. Some very good songs can be found on ToS like The Headless Game; Falling Down; Arrows Fly and The Unbeliever.Still this is inferior than HC and would rate it between 70 and 80.

Hellfire Club has like 2-4 lame songs. Theater of Salvation has about 3-4 good songs, the rest is lame, boring and/or mediocre.

I forgot to say that for the sound quality, you'll have a much better product with Hellfire Club (and Mandrake too). At the time of Vain Glory Opera and Theater of Salvation, the sound was not very very good, you really have to put the sound loud to hear well and it's not as clear. But that's it. After that, the other albums had a much better sound, as Edguy progressed - which just normal anyway.

I really like ALL the songs on Theater of Salvation.
I think the best ones are:

- Theater of Salvation (of course !!!) That's one of their most popular (bad they never play it live). It's very long and GREAT !!!! Usually the song people think of when they think of Edguy or recognize them.
- Babylon
- Arrows Fly
- Falling Down
- Land of the Miracle (good ballad - they ALWAYS play it live)
- Wake Up the King
- The Headless Game

This is a very good power album to get... :)

True !!! I forgot to mention "The Unbeliever"...this one is pretty fast and entertaining. I love it too ! :)
But I like almost all their ballads...can't really remember right now of one that I don't like. Some I like LESS than others, but none that I DON'T like at all.

-The Healing Vision--ok intro
-Babylon--decent
-The Headless Game--good song
-Land of the Miracle--ranges between good and nauseating
-Wake up King--average
-Falling Down--kinda lame
-Arrows Fly--very cool chorus part, but extremely lame song
-Holy Shadows--not bad
-Another Time--pretty lame ballad
-The Unbeliever--good song
-Theater of Salvation--highlight of the album
-Trace of Life--solid bonus track

I agree. I consider this bonus track as a "solid" one too. But I must say that I'm quite surprised of your opinion about it...
People don't like this one very much, usually...I think it's a great one. Great vocals !!

Agreed, the title track is one of my favorites.

The title track simply shows Edguy don'd have the musical skills to afford writing long songs with complicate structure. They fail where bands like Symphony X ,Angra or even Sonata Arctica succeed.(By the way ,if Edguy is in the Classics ,why not Symphony and Sonata?).

Anyway,i'd give this album 75/100.

Oh my god, would you mind saying your opinion instead of saying it thinking it's a fact? In my opinion, Theater of Salvation is the best Edguy album ev er and only has one bad song and that's Holy Shadows. I think Hellfire Club is much worse than ToS!

@stub That's just your opinion once again, I think that the title song is the best Edguy song ever, it has anything a long song needs why should we care about the complexity of the structure? Well, I just don't give a damn about complexity.

Actually, for stub on Edguy that was pretty generous. I'm sure if he'd voted over the last couple of months he would have given a much lower score.

EDIT:
By the way, welcome to the forum, Ateis.

I used to really like this album....like five years ago. I hadnt listened to it in a long time and I pulled it out again for another spin, and man, I don't know what my problem was back then, this is absolute generic crap.

Me too, I think I was suffering from inflated metalreviews.com score induced psychosis.

I recently pulled this album out of the shelf, roughly 5, 6 years after the last time I listened to it. Though I don't think it's a classic, it definitely stood the (short?) test of time in my ears, and it rocked my world for a couple of days as I listened to all the songs all over again.

It's also fun to see how they went from Kingdom of Madness (an average album at best) to Vain Glory Opera (good) to Theater of Salvation (great). Being able to improve that much in every aspect of the music is impressive.

I wonder what these guys sounds like in 15 years. Can't quite imagine...
